Hubby and I started building our new greenhouse. The growing season here in the mtns. is just too short. I got all my raised beds weeded and ready to plant today. All the seedlings I started are BEGGING to be put in the ground! I found an old feed bin that was left by the previous owners big enough for 3 raspberry plants. I'll outsmart those dang gophers yet!
The strawberries, blueberries, and asparagus are doing GREAT! YAY!
You people psych me up! All of my annuals are in-I went a little overboard! The perennials are just about to "pop."

It was good that I had them "tune-up" my irrigation system this year. Now I don't have to worry about all those dry spots I used to have. The problem is that the weeds are growing faster too!

This year's theme in the garden is "aroma and butterflies." I planted anything that has a nice scent: alyssum, purple petunia, roses, herbs, and anything that attracts butterflies: buddlea-however it's spelled, loostrife, cosmos, lantana, tall phlox... so far I feel very satisfied with the way everyhting's growing...except the weeds!

Any suggestions for plantings for more butterflies??

Gungawoman-I always wanted a greenhouse. Are you building from scratch or is it a kit?

Vincent-
Sounds like you have a massive garden! Our greenhouse is from a kit. It's an 8X12' Solexx. So far the only problem is cooling. There are 6 floor vents and a large solar louver vent, but it's too hot. We live at 7000' and the sun is really intense, even though it doesn't get too hot here. The shade cloth we have doesn't seem to help much. We'll get it figured out.....
How's everyone's garden doing now? Our plants are growing so quickly we can practically hear them! We have proto oranges, limes and more lemons. The catnip has come back from the dead (well, it looked dead). The herbs are going nuts... can't wait to start munching out!

And my jasmine is in full bloom.... OMG it smells so good in there!!! The honeysuckle is still sending shoots and we're training the two to meet and entwine above our heads. Man, when we have both of those going it's going to smell heavenly Big Grin
My bleeding hearts are looking good and my herb garden is getting a nice start.
I'm so happy to "meet" all of my fellow gardeners here!

I missed being out there Saturday due to our "Day of Drum Kit." I managed to get out a little yesterday-weeded some beds and dead-headed the pansies which look like they may bloom for another week.

The fennel that I had planted to attract the Black Swallowtails (they lay their eggs on it) is spreading all over the place. Is it perennial? It apparently has seeded itself. The original "plant" I put in the ground is now a fennel tree

I don't know about the fennel, but FYI:

Swallowtail butterfly caterpillars also like dill.

This pic isn't the best, but I was weeding yesterday and found these little "skull" seedpods. They are only 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch in size, but they were just so creepy! I have no idea what they are. Any guesses????

I see a lot of them visiting my pentas and summer snapdragons. Another favorite is the chaste tree (it flowers somewhat like a butterfly bush, with foliage somewhat like...errr...hemp. 'Tree' is somewhat of a misnomer, it's more large-bush sized than tree-sized; and it's proven to be pretty drought-tolerant also).

Night night everyone - I am full of cold and nasty bugs - I was going to say something about this, but regret I need some sleep........
