Yeah I was reading that pdf a little more. Container plants can be planted in spring - its all it says, so I assume that means that if I got some at the local nursery I could drop those in now so they take root for next year. At least thats how I read it.
I have to read up on this stuff for next year. If I buy a house, I'll be spending a small fortune on flowering shrubs, and flowers in general if they don't already exist on the property. Roses, Lilacs, Potentella, tulips, daffodils, irises...etc.
Then there's the vegetable garden I want.
But first, the house!
I would plant the roses and lilacs now. I think they would be okay. The lilacs won't bloom until next year and the roses may be a little slow to bloom, but I think they will. We have purchased roses throughout spring and early summer, planted them and they are still growing. In fact we have some roses that were at my grandmother's house, my mother's house and now my house that still grow great every year. We have taken a clump of lilacs from other and planted those too without a problem. If you want to do bulbs, just make sure you plant tulips, daffodils, hyacinths all in the fall.
I'll have to talk it over with Mrs. B. We have two weddings in the next two weekends. I want to be able to plant at least soime roses in that same time frame. The other issue we have is in the back of our lot. When we bought the house there was an empty field behind us, and the back lot line was covered with scrub trees and essentially a trash pile. Now some developer has moved in building houses and its going to take a month of Sundays to clean it all up back there. And thats where we want the lilacs so that the westerly breeze can blow the lilac scent into the house.

My KINGDOM for a skid loader right now.

Wow!! My parents live 1200 miles from us Sad A little difficult to visit them often.
I thought I would do a quick Sat Nav check -

We are in Worcester, (West Midlands) from here by car are some distances -
Lands End Penzance (South West tip of Britain) 254 Miles
John O` Groats (North East tip of Britain) 589 Miles
London 137 Miles

Just shows what a tiny Island we really are and how huge the US is......
