My kids decided to watch "Mr. Bean's Holiday" yesterday. I've seen it a few times already and still get a good laugh
Going to agree with Nettie on "Thor".
Chris Hemsworth plays the title role with gusto without turning it silly. Arrogant, reckless and spoiling for a fight - and yeah, he's a hunkasaurus to the female moviegoers.
Tom Hiddleston offers a terribly accurate portrayal of "Loki", projecting all of the cunning, darkness, betrayal and downright nastiness of the god of mischief.
The presence that Anthony Hopkins brings to pretty much anything on screen is no exception here.
"Odin" - the king, and father to Thor and Loki, is beautifully played by Hopkins.
Some of the key factors, points and characters are included in the film. I will tell you that this took a LONG time to produce, and it shows... with a vengeance.
The movie is a feast for the eyes and ears. Asgard (the world where the title character lives), is a work of art. For real.
It is absolutely stunning, and I found myself more than a few times saying, "No-no-no... show me that scene again!!"
I cannot imagine the amount of time and effort that it took just to pull off one of those scenes.
One of the most ominous characters in the Marvel comic book was "Destroyer", created by Odin as a guardian of the vaults and armory of Asgard. You seldom ever caught a glimpse of this creation, but when you did - you knew there was going to be serious trouble. It is very coolly done in the film, showing the single-purpose invincibility of the thing.
There are loads of very cool effects, and other characters that make appearances in the film.
Do yourself a favor - pay the extra few bucks and see it in 3D if possible. The soundtrack is worth the $$$.
* Oh yeah - Natalie Portman is in it as well, adding her pixie-ish cuteness in every scene. (Personally, I think she would have been cuter in her pirate costume - wuf)

Well, for those of us of the "Pirate" gland (thats me!) we'll be going to see the latest this coming weekend I am sure. But - I may try to 'neek' away (yeah right Boomer - on your Harley?) and see Thor. I remember collection all sorts of comic books, and Thor was one I really loved. Of course, anything Nordic has gotta be cool.

Actually haven't figured out the whole family lineage - was taken from my parents at age 7 and finding records on family has been hard. I just prefer to keep my Viking tendencies on the Harley.
There have been a lot of war movies listed here. Anyone seen Miracle at St. Anna? It's a Spike Lee movie, but very atypical for him. It's a GREAT movie, but it made me cry like a baby at the end.

It did the same thing to my wife. A very good movie. I was surprised it turned out so well, since as you said, this is not Spike Lee's typical movie style.
Has anyone seen Ingloriuos Basterds? I couldn't stop laughing thru it, it was too hilarious. It reminded me of movies like The dirty dozen, Kelly's heroes, etc.
Watched Inglorious several times! Needed a good laugh - but it sure makes you want to yank out one of those Arkansas Toothpicks and commence to carving! I think Brad Pitt lost his mind in the part but thats what makes it so funny.
Livi and I watched the Kings Speech tonight - I really enjoyed the film, and can see why it received the applause it got.
I liked the Aussie Logan (Rush) -although I could see so much Capin` Barbossa from Pirates in him - kicking back at the then Duke and later King, as no Englishman would and that helped cement the friendship and "cure" the King (Firth), of his speech problems.
I also noticed the underhand establishment way of investigating Rush and parading him as a fraud to the King.....however, the King was true to Rush and the friendship they had made....Good Bloke!

No one here likes BladeRunner? I did a search and found Sling Blade - also a great BBT movie Badder Santa if you really need a laugh - John Ritter is perfect and Bernie Mac wow what draw on that smoke - both RIP
