The Help was indeed, very good.
My family and I will never look at chocolate pie again, without thinking of that movie! LOL
Red Tails looked excellent in the trailer. I'm so glad it's that good and looking forward to seeing it!
Got a Blu-Ray copy of The Help last week. Haven't been able to sit Katie down and watch it yet, though... Also got Zombieland. As I've only seen it on cable in SD, I'm looking forward to watching the Blu-Ray when I get a chance. Big Grin
Ok Scythe...remember the rules.. 1.Cardio, 2.Double Tap LOL
I watched two of my favorites today. #1 is Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange...this was the Missus's first time, & she said she was going to have weird dreams this night. I say well done Mr. Kubrick, well done indeed.Tongue #2 is Kevin Smith's 1999 classic Dogma...the wife bought this on DVD back in 2000 when her Catholic church advised the parishioners not to watch it. Naturally this made the Missus curious, and she bought it and we were both instantly hooked with Mr. Smith's work. Big Grin
I tried to turn a few people on to A Clockwork Orange. Didn't work. They wound up thinking I was weirder than they originally thought. Meh, oh well. Smile I think Kubrick is a genius.
CD - Clockwork was so strange (by average Joe standards) that it drew incredible amounts of attention to Kubricks work.
That film made far more sense to me than his last, "Eyes Wide Shut".
In all honesty, it is a shame that was his closing gift to cinema.
Eyes Wide Shut, to me, never really went anywhere - other than to show what rich, wrinkled old goats are capable of along carnal lines.
OK - so Tom and Nicole were the leads... and? She pisses him off while both are stoned, over an imaginary one-niter with some nobody naval officer. He goes a little nuts with jealousy and spends the next 48 hours scratching the underbelly of the beast, so to speak.
Keep in mind that he never really takes part in anything, other than seeing it, and flirting dangerously close with bad juju (couldn't help it).
I sat through it twice, and tried to see it through Kubricks eyes. No luck - it was a loosely woven bunch of circumstances with the only real message of "see what can happen when you make one bad choice" lurking in the background.
The ending scene? Uhhh... really Stan?

Oddly enough (might be wrong here) but the favorite for me was the only one of Stanleys films that was not nominated for an Oscar; The Shining. To this day, one of the most scary-as-sh!t films ever.
Owww dear.

A Clockwork Orange was so....out there!! I got a chance to watch that when I was out at sea during a deterrent patrol, and there is nothing worse than a sailor with THAT in his head! You can go blow that out in any other branch, but on a submarine - YOURE KINDA STUCK!

I think one of Kubricks best works was "Full Metal Jacket". Yes that messed with you, but it was loaded with stuff that unless you actually served, the average Joe wouldnt get. Lots of symbolism and lots of internal conflict. The only other one I liked as The Shining! I will NEVER go up to a ski lodge in winter again alone. EVER!

Eyes Wide Shut? Oh please. My girls tried to get me to watch that...and I just....nope!

Yeah, they told us not to watch it, and everyone immediately went out and saw it, to see what the fuss was about. It was good for a giggle.
