could NOT agree more... this was absolutely going to be my pet peeve... and come on folks - you are operating a 2000+ lb vehicle and NOT paying attn? As said above - DRIVE, pay attention... TALK /TEXT once you are NOT driving

The powers that be, finally made it against the law to be on your cell phone while driving (though I believe that you can still have a bluetooth device). Even though that law has been passed, there are still people who talk on their hand-held phones while driving. Only now, they can be fined if they're caught.

We only have a law against texting, and they've only caught a few people so far...I know there are more!! They are texting at stoplights, because they aren't technically driving. The light changes, and they don't move. Grr!
You think its bad from the drivers seat of your car, you should see some of the outlandish nightmares I see on the Harley. People yakking on their cells, curling their hair, seeing the backs of their heads when they pull up to an intersection nevermind that I am "oncoming" traffic, painting their eyelids, shaving, yelling at the kids while the car "drifts" into my lane, eating a cheeseburger, sex (yeah thats right!), reading the paper, typing an email on their LAPTOP. And the list goes on.....and on.......and on......

When I bought my Harley my business associate told me I'd get run over in a month. Its been three years, but sometimes I am just terrified to go out in that durn fool traffic. I'd like to see an anti cell phone law in every state...make it a planetary thing. Put a signal blocker in the ignition of your car. Once you start the car the cell signal is blocked. Cell phone accidents attribute to about 35% of all motor vehicle deaths I think. Its everyone...not just the kids, not just the business man, not teachers engineers - its everybody.
Also, there is a huge generation of kids now that text constantly, I mean, ALL of the time. What happens when they all get a license? I am a'feared.
No wonder Bubba likes taking the back roads. Not only do you get to see a lot of interesting places, but less nutjobs on the road Smile
It has been illegal over here for years. Heavy fine and 3 penalty points (12 and your license is suspended). Has not changed a thing though. The Police do occassionally stop and prosecute but those are usually middle class working people, whom they know are wealthy, and noble enough to accept the punishment. The rest, (foreign truck drivers, EU registered cars, poor people, rich people) they leave well alone.
Same laws here in NC, but (and here is the real genius *snort* LMAO) the law exists for those UNDER 18 and Bus Drivers (*blink*)... so, uhmmm my 19 yo step son that texts me while he is sitting in the same dang room as me... uhmmm this law doesnt apply to him? Oy... i feel SO safe .. honestly! *sadsigh*. We moved to NC about a year ago and live off a 2 lane state hwy, and at this point, i have honestly lost track of the number of times i have had to swerve to avoid some idjit in their car texting/talking away and not paying attn to that pesky center line Sad

And the "penalties" here (HA.. what a laugh this is) range from $25-$100 (minimum of course) AND, NO points added to your license..., uhmm why bother? I tell ya what, do what Las Vegas did for school zones and you will see this trend take a down turn. When i lived in Vegas (2000-2007), if you were caught speeding in a school zone, $100 for each mile you were over 20. OUch - but effective Smile

And Boomer, right on... i am ALL for your idea. This has got to stop! And NWoBHM, it sounds like the UK has the right approach on the fines, but as with most places, it's not enforced as it should be

BEH... *taking my soap box and going to figure out twitter* ; P
A small peeve, and more of an observation......but why when you have a boiled egg, and poke the soldier into it the yoke runs down the side of the egg you cannot see because it is hidden by the soldier......and you are poking away thinking "come on yoke hurry up and pop" - and it has, and run down the other side.........
Ha, I made a dozen boiled eggs last week, but no soldiers with them, I hard boiled them to eat cold with a little sprinkled salt. But my problem is the shells were holding fast to the eggs, and not wanting to be peeled off, and forcing the issue only took a lot of the white off with the shells, grrrrrr. I suppose there must be some trick to boiling them so the shell cooperates when peeling. Undecided
