That's OK, Boomer--Foghorn Leghorn got better too.....
Two more, and again, recently encountered:

- People who use "disrespect" as a verb. Arrrrgggghh...
Is this because in the Coddled Baby Boomer Era, "insult" or "offend" are words that we've all become too delicate to handle? Perhaps even the dullards fond of that form realize that "acted like a Big Bad Meanie toward me, waaaah!" would be counterproductive... [The Purist Corner: True, even the O.E.D. says the verb form is a valid form, but just because you "can" doesn't mean you "should."]

My primary beef ("prime beef"... 'Reminds me, it's time I had a steak,) is what the verb form smuggles in intellectually. Aside from the connotation of "I'm a bonehead" - arising from the fact that it owes its current faddish popularity to gang-punks - "disrespect" as a verb implies that "respect" is automatic and is deserved, without cause, by any random schmuck who demands it of you. 'Say what? So...fingernails-on-chalkboard material for me, hands down.

- That guy who gives you a free, unsolicited shower in the restroom. You know, you're standing there washing your hands; the guy next to you is too; he finishes up first and vigorously shakes the water from his hands - directly onto you. "Gee, thanks pal, I did have a shower this morning but you're right, I really needed freshening up. Can you hand me a towel? Kthxbye." Elementary Consideration 101: Fail.

Journalist Mike Straka used to do a column called "Grrrs" where he'd identify such things - the antics of what he called "Oblivions": people who walk through life bereft of even the most rudimentary awareness of anything around them. Dodgy

Yes!! People like that drive me crazy (short trip, I know). It's like they live in their own little world wherein they are the only thing that matters and all the rest of us are props.

Plus, they drive! Giving us the earlier peeve of texting while driving. Both texting and talking on a hand-held phone are illegal here in WA... as if that stops them. And, Boomer, I hear tales from my Hubby every day about how motorcycles appear to be invisible to some folks. It makes me worry, yes it does. About him. About Bubba and Brutus and Michael and Boomer and everyone else I know who rides.

I know i went off on the whole cell/text while driving bit earlier in this thread, but i think it is what SC mentions above, that is really the root of the problems with folks today... too dang self absorbed to care about anything or anyone else. *smh* It would be nice if people just took the time to think (about something more than themselves). It seems this is just a bit too much to ask these days *sighs*Sad
o.k. I know online dating is weird at times, and scary at times...but what makes a person think their MUG SHOT would be a good picture to post of themselves?(Front and side views).

at least he's honest, but oh my goodness, what was he thinking????
"I've been in jail and hey that's a good photo to put on my dating profile because it's recent?" Huh
