My first kit was my dads, a 1960,s maple Ludwig. I really thought I was doing the kit justice by changing out the Ludwig tom mount to a beafier Tama mount and neck. I was so dumb because I had to drill holes in the bass drum to compensate. And of course the toms were drilled out as well to adapt to Tama's hardware. The Old Ludwid hardware was just plain garbage though. Then it was my first Tama. A 1990 Tama Rockstar DX. I played that set for 12 years and it never failed me once. Then it was the StarClassic Maple (thanks to Bubba who thought the whole thing up decades before it ever hit the market). This kit plays itself and is my current main kit. (22,18,16,14,12,10,8,14s and Paragons-bought the flight case the day it came out).
I have a Tama Bubinga kit with Zil's for my beat up kit. A stupid 26 bass, 14s, 14 and 16.
All Tama Roadpro hardware and Ironcobra's on all kits. All have Evans heads and when I'm frustrated I use moon-gel.
Then I have a wicked old Kent bass drum and a full Rogers Holiday kit with original hardware.
DW is next.
Hi NBC - Mate have you got sorted on posting pics yet, as I would love to see some shots of your gear? A 1960`s Ludwig maple - wow mate respect - was this the same sort as Ian Paice, Simon Kirke and John Bonham used??? Know what you are saying though on Tama hardware it is solid as a rock.
I really loved Bubba`s Red Sparkle DW and desperately wanted one for about 13 years - but with two daughters and a crap job, could only dream of it - and I sort of felt disloyal to the Tama which had been with me since for ever practically - which was why I opted for the Boom Theory ekit as my studio (DW look alike kit - and sound alike when you consider the ddrum sound files include DW), and the Tama for the road - if I ever get on the road before I am too old to be bothered!!
Didnt Bonham use a 26" Bass?

Not sure. But it's way too big. I wish I never bought it, ya want it?
My misses would kill me - we are overrun with kits already - despite giving a couple of my old edrum kits away to kids who were learning.
Got a message from the bloke making my kit in the US - He was packing it yesterday and went to clean some of the finger marks off the Bass shell - he picked up what he thought was cleaner and started wiping, only to realise it was some corrosive stuff, and where he had wiped, the Red Sparkle was bubbling - he was gutted - and I really felt sorry for him - poor bugger has to unpick it all, get some red sparkle and start again - a simple tired mistake.
See, ya can't even give a 26 inch bass drum away these days. I just found my new coffee table. I'm kidding. It's a cannon and makes a heck of a subsonic thud followed by a dark nasty growl.
Dated a girl like that once.
Once....
Like that meaning that she had a dark nasty growl or you couldn't give her away?
Or perhaps she made a subsonic thud.....???
lol!
