Thanks Bagel for the really kind words....

I wonder what their teachers thought when they got a note to be excused school because they were going with their dad to Rockfield, and then Abbey Road.......

My kids just shrug it off - like all kids go to Abbey Road with their dad. Hey ho!!It does keep you grounded though.......

They did like the gold toilet seat at Rockfield though........some rock star would not sit on anything except a gold throne......!!
A gold toilet seat eh? I think my grandmother would have wanted one if she could have afforded it, lol.

Yeah - someone would not sit on anything else - not real gold I hasten to add, but had to be changed for him.

Kingsley - the owner of Rockfield told us many tales of the attendees there - Lemmy from Motorhead, (best not mention that tale) and the Gallagher boys from Oasis - apparently they got into a fight, (no news there I suppose) and smashed a door off its hinges. When Kingsley got the news it was "we have some good news and bad", "the bad news is the boys have broken a door on the studio", "the good news is they have buggered off back to London"
Since about 2002, (with the exception of recording Sub Cris which was the TAMA) I have pretty much played digital drums, (ddrum4se for 5 years, follwed by Roland TD20K), and in all that time not worn out a pair of sticks.

I have been playing my Tama again for about a week or so.......and today broken drum stick, and skin has split on index finger of right hand.

There is no doubt in my mind that playing acoustics take it out of you more.......
I had an overwhelming desire today to go and find John Bonham`s resting place and pay my regards to the great man.

He is laid to rest about a 30 minute drive from where we live, (and unbelievably about a 10 min drive from a lot of places I have worked - I wish I had known - it would have been nice to step out from those places, which I pretty much hated, and find some peace at the Church).

Anyway the Church is beautiful, set high on a hill with stunning views across the Worcestershire countryside, in a tiny village called Rushock - and his grave stone although littered with drum sticks, skins, money, is wonderful. While I was there the sun came from behind a cloud and I swear shone down onto him - it was heading to the West - and seemed really apt.

That's really cool. Ever been to Keith Moon's?

Hi Vince,

No - I am not even sure where he is laid to rest. I knew John was around here, but never realised just how close - so I am really pleased I went - although now all I keep thinking about are Paiste 2002 sound edge hi hats, Ludwig 402`s, Speedkings and BIG Ludwig Maples......
How did I miss this thread? Is ther anything better than drumming? (Yes, even THAT thing sometimes isn't as good as just sitting down at the kit and playing!)
So, my random observations:
>I don't play often enough, mostly due to the sound level and its effect on the neighbors. For 5 years I had a house in the middle of nowhere so I could play at ANY time. THAT was nice. Now, my house is in the middle of...other houses.
>Do most of you have big kits like N, umm, like Phil Collins? My graduation-gift from 8th grade (first kit) was a 4 piece but as soon as I could I got a large kit. My current Pearl kit is 11-piece. Nothing like excess, eh?
>Anyone else like the Constantinople series from Big "Z"? I love their unique sound.
>Anyone else play hand drums? I have always really enjoyed them and especially, playing with the right group.
Thanks for listening and thanks for the thread!

...and that right foot of his!
Wow...and he did that on the OLD gear.
Ah the DrumThread. Handdrums! Yes, Sarasota Florida. Siesta Key beach. Every Sunday evening at sunset we would gather around our fires to celebrate. I've met some very cool people on that beach. These days when I go to visit my mother in Sarasota, I'm sure to stop for the sundaynite Drum circle. She says I only come to see her for this reasonWink

Those circles can be...bad...good...and sometimes: transcendental!
I played with some drummers once for Steven Kent (the dig player) and THAT was a magical night. But some of the most ordinary get-togethers have had that same magic.

Drums provide that magic, don't they?
