HA! Coolest thing evah! Count me in. Has anything been recorded yet? Some of the older tunes would be really fun too. It's occurs to me that to coincide with the October date, it would be pretty cool to have all those attending that are interested into the rehearsal hall to sing a chorus or two that we could edit into what ever songs are going. I happen to have a Tascam 2488 neo portastudio that I could make available for the occasion if folks are interested.
What say you?

October date? I browsed back through a few pages...but never found it...what "October date"?
Also, I saw some discussion of Levon Helm (R.I.P.), and his abilities as a singing drummer.
Has anybody ever heard or checked out "JellyFish"?
Go search em' up on YT...excellent singing drummer who fronts the band and plays standing up!

Well I have been quietly worrying to myself recently (and not been prepared to yet admit it to close friends and family).....I started playing my old ddrum4se a few months back and noticed I had a terrible pain in my left arm, and a little in my right. Putting it down to the harder playing surface in the ddrum, went back to the Roland for a while.....some improvement, but not spectacular, (sometimes nurofen pills just to sit doing nothing)......Finally figured if this is the end of the drumming road, I will go out fighting on my acoustic kit (Tama Superstar from 1981)......But the pain has really been getting worse. It feels as though someone has driven a nail through the elbow joint, and passed barbed wire down the length of the tendon from there to my fingers, and knuckles.
It is a constant and painful reminder.
I suppose I will have to go and see a Doc, who will say, "stop playing the drums"......But how do you stop something which has been your dreams, your life for maybe 35 years???
I dont know, but it has got me worried and a little depressed......
For now I am trying some "lighter" sticks (I had been using 5B`s which are pretty heavy weight, and not which I would normally use, having used Bubba`s 747`s for about 20 years or so I have gone back to those)..........but it still hurts like crazy.......

Well, that is quite a descriptive line you used there! I almost felt your pain as I read it. But of course you can't give it up, there has to be another way. What is it that Bubba uses, is it Bufferins? Try those. If that doesn't help maybe have to grit and bear it a bit, but try to keep playing, even if you can't hit them as hard. If all else fails aren't there some electronic drum pads out now that are more like a bouncy cloth, instead of that hard pad, and will register the signal without such a resistive backlash?
Here is a quote of Bubba from the Nov 2007 NEP news (I hope its okay to do a short Bubba quote here):
"Day and night, my body was sore all over, “weary from my nose to my toes.” In the bus lounge at night after a show, Brutus laughed when I struggled up from my seat with each motion accompanied by Germanic groans, “Ach, der oofen-aufen, einbahnstrasse, gemütlich, schadenfreude.” (Somehow German best expresses an aching body).
But the general, all-over pain is only the natural result of exertion (and advancing years), and can be endured, and eased with a couple of Bufferins. It’s the more specific pains that are worrisome."

So, Nwo, I suggest you learn those lines of German, shout them out loudly when the pain begins, take some Bufferins, and play those drums!

Rey I will try Bufferins, Mogadon, alcohol (my drug of choice at the moment), as it HURTS.
I was thinking about Phil Collins tonight, as I gather he has Carple Tunnel Syndrome and he cannot play any more, and I thought, but what the heck he has more money than you could shake a stick at.........but then I thought he might exchange some of that just to play again..

Man that sounds serious. First thing I would do is talk with your doctor. You know yourself that pain meds only treat the symptoms and not the cause. So find out for sure what the problem is, in case it's a simple fix that will allow you to continue on for many years into the future.
Best of luck with it!

Well, last night was a hoot! The worship band at church has practice on Tuesdays and they invited me in. I played a drum kit for several songs and congas for a few more. I haven't sat behind drums for well over 25 years. Haven't even picked up sticks for probably 5 or more years.
Thankfully, I didn't screw up! I felt like Ringo----keep a steady beat and nothing too fancy.....
Hey, NWo---how is your arm doing????

Any chance of some video surfacing of last night's gig????
