Thats kind of you to say - but I really often dont get site threads Its almost like an e autism - like where an autistic person does not pick up on (or is over loaded) with the body language and other social information coming over in a conversation - I dont pick up the nuance in written conversation (my nephew is classically Autistic).

NWoBHM = New Wave of British Heavy Metal - the era early Eighties which gave rise to Saxon, Iron Maiden and about a million other bands.
All this time I was assuming it was "North-West of Birmingham"!

I think it was my leaping from the "Being from England" assumption...assuming THAT'S correct!

About 30 miles South West of Brum.
So I had my first "drum gig" in some time, being mostly bassist these days. We played a Rock Holiday Show kids grades 3-5, many of which have not witnessed live rock. We opened with "Rudolf" in a Chuck Berry groove (think Johnny B' Good) followed by the dreidel song in reggae, the "A Few of My favorite Things" in 4/4 time Pink Floyd beat on the ride, Frosty and Jingle Bells in a Ramones "Fro-sty Let's go!" punk beat, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town-Bruce's version. They went nuts. 500 of them screamed louder than the RUSH concert and they all sand along while waving arms, doing waves, etc. What a feeling! I'm proud to say under my green dress shirt and red tie I had my "Bubba's Bar and Grill" T-Shirt on. A very warm experience...
Sweet!
I second that!! Sweet and how fun!!
Did ya get to rock the double bass a bit? Getting a little pit action going, kids chuckin each other across the room. Singing Silent Night in a low death growl. That's what it's all about.

My mind wonders sorry
Nah, only a single bass. We had a keyboard, bass, lead guitar, 3 male vocalists switching around for different songs, and 3 or four females who did these little back-up singer dances. Visually appealing. I used a lot of dynamic in my playing, so when it was time for power beats it drove sizzlin'. A couple of nice "instinctual fills" came out of me and everything was dead on so overall I was happy with the playing, the mix wasn't half bad and I could hear and play off of each instrumental part. Overall I held back for the sake of perfect groove, but I never played a totally straight two and four beat. Highlight of 2010. I always push "paper" in the arts realm, but this is one of the few times I'm in essence getting paid to rock!
Haha cool. I'm just joking anyway.

I've been getting into playing Third Day's 'Creed' originally done by the late great Rich Mullins.
I love the feel of that song when I play it. In a very very minor way it reminds me of trying to play Territories in a down scaled fassion.

I've been exploring with tuning. In the past, I'll spend 10 minutes on a drum tuning it, and end up adding moon gel anyway. Now I've gone back to the ways that I've been taught and now tune bottom up, slightly. Where I used to try and achieve a matching note from bottom to top.
I Love the Tama Starclassic maple drums. I whale the crap out of them and they don't budge or de-tune. But! I wish that Tama didn't make the lug threads so thin. I like the DW's because a fatter "sweet spot" note can be found much quicker in the tuning. At least that how I think. But maybe my Gilbert Grape is wrong.
In the end, I just hit them hard and they tune themselves the way that they want to be tuned then add moon gelSmile
