Talons are huge but look at that wingspan, too. Holy cow!

That was so beautiful, especially when he "lit up" its underbelly at that last moment.
So I notice that the little piece of soffit (how do you spell it!) up in the corner of the house and roof that separated slightly during the "hurristorm" now has provided luxury entrance to a pair of Thrashers. They're beautiful. Large like a jay yet more streamline, nice grey coat with black accents.

I priced renting an extension ladder vs. having the professionally relocated and went with the latter. $200 that I don't have! Yikes.

I was upset at first but now I'm just accepting it.

They are beautiful birds. I just hope there aren't any young at this point.
My little crew today was loudly crossing the street after lunch when they all suddenly stopped. A Monarch was flying overhead. "OOOh a butterfly", was the cry I heard. It was headed South, which is pretty cool. I've never seen a Monarch during the migration period.
Wouldn't it be cool if it was one that fed here a week or two ago?
It's a bit late for nests, isn't it, VU? I hope the thrashers are just trying out the idea....
Either way they must be served "notice."

Where are you again?
Vincent, there is an owl migration (Fly By Night!) over your island in the late fall. Check with your local Audubon chapter or Fish and Game, they may be able to turn you on to it and you can volunteer. I read about a group mist netting birds for banding, etc. Sounded way cool.
There is a nesting pair of Eagles that haved moved into the marsh out here by us. Mr.2Beers had the pleasure the other day to see one of them in flight.
