Thanks RN for starting the engines on this one. I am curious to try some Schnapps, so any tips would be welcome.
My mate from school had a German Dad, and I remember trying some way back then - but that was an awfully long time ago.

and we have the German Type of Vodka called Korn
very Popular in Germany flavored with Apples , The American Soldiers loved it ( I grow up in a town where 8000 Gi´s stationed till 92)
also popular are Liquors with herbs like Jaegermeister but there are better ones like the Gebirgsbitter (Mountain-Brand) of Altenberg
less Sugar more Herbs or Kalmus (real bitter)
one brand I tried was splendid made of Hazelnut

Ah, I remember my aunt and uncle, in the wintertime when they would go out riding on their snowmobiles, would always bring along a flask of Peppermint Schnapps, to help "keep us warm", as they would say.
I always thought it was like drinking mint mouthwash, but I really only tasted it once or twice.
Monarch, in Colorado. My precious flower of a bride is in line for the lift when I zoom up... exhausted and parched.
She reaches into her parka and hands me a water bottle. I should have caught the glance towards her girlfriend as she did this.
I open the bottle and chug ... schnapps.
I gag and snort the offending liquid lava through my nostrils, hoping that no one has alerted the patrol that a skier is in distress twenty feet from the bar.
I stumble towards the bar for a beer or water or anything other than the molten slime coursing through my guts.
I hear laughter from behind me. I plot my revenge even as I contemplate a quick hurl before entering the bar.
Oh ya - schnapps. Does a body good...

The first time I went to a post duty party in the navy we got about 4 bottles of peppermint schnapps. My head STILL hurts from that night. I woke up somehow laying on the top of the back of a couch with my head hanging off the end. I honestly do not remember much after about Bottle No. 2.....except when I woke up I was broke from the poker game we had been playing.......
