RE: Favourite Films - VincentUlyssis - 12-25-2010 09:02 AM Ahh, "A Christmas Carol." My holiday obsession for years. I had to buy every film version; the one from the 30's with Reginald Owen, the 50's with Alistair Sim, the one from the 70's with George C. Scott, Muppets, etc. Haven't seen a modern version I like that's true to the original text. I think we're overdue for a George Lucas version with all the high tech effects....and please, not some pop culture bubble gum version with modern slang and idioms to appeal to the younger generations with hip hop references. I'd also love to see someone do the story of Christmas reaching back to Genesis, culminating with the Virgin Birth and when the wise men arrive after Herod's massacre, they see a flash of the salvation plan in the child's eye and the film ends with the heavenly host rejoicing in the sky above them. The hope of mankind. RE: Favourite Films - Neilbubbachuck - 12-25-2010 09:53 AM (12-25-2010 09:02 AM)VincentUlyssis Wrote: Ahh, "A Christmas Carol." My holiday obsession for years. The hope of mankind. The Nativity Story, I think you should check it out. And the Scrooge musical rocks! I hate peoplllllllle. LOL RE: Favourite Films - Bageleth - 12-25-2010 10:28 AM We're still waiting for the version of "A Christmas Carol" featuring Patrick Stewart. I'm guessing that Picard makes a great Scrooge. Yep Picard made a great Scrooge.........."Jacob Marley............but you were a good business man" RE: Favourite Films - Neilbubbachuck - 12-25-2010 11:36 AM That dude wrecked me when I was young. When he was walking up the stairs, SCoooooooooooooge scrooooooooooooooooooooooge clang clingclang cling clang scroooooooooooooooooooge. RE: Favourite Films - Boomer - 12-25-2010 12:00 PM We have a yearly tradition of watching "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" every Christmas Eve. I still laugh at it even though I watched it about a gazillion times. This year we got "A Christmas Carol" - the animated one with Jim Carrey. Tonight we will watch "Scrooged" with Bill Murray - all wonderful Christmas classics I'd say......well, maybe "Rambo" is pushing it though. RE: Favourite Films - Bageleth - 12-25-2010 10:48 PM We watched "Christmas Vacation" a few days ago. I think we're watching "Lethal Weapon" either tonight or tomorrow. That takes place at Christmas RE: Favourite Films - VincentUlyssis - 12-27-2010 08:48 AM Yes, I believe that "Lethal Weapon" WOULD qualify as a Christmas film tradition based on that fact. RE: Favourite Films - NWoBHM - 01-07-2011 04:58 AM Picking up Boomers and mine discussion from Tools of the Trade - Das Boot! I love the bit where they are on the surface and the sea is really rough, and the Captain orders them to dive and just sit quietly and rest beneath the surface for 2 hours. Even the viewer relaxes from the tension while they rest. RE: Favourite Films - Boomer - 01-07-2011 08:00 AM I like the part where they are driving on the surface and the sea keeps washing over the conning tower - they are literally screaming at the sea almost defiantly. I did that a number of times, felt the sting on my face, the wind at my back. |
