Last night around 6pm (Long Island)the sky turned black; then it was very windy with heavy sideways rain. It is cooler and dryer today-mid 80's. Yesterday and the day before were SO HOT!!
I suspect BUBBA was in town for his Letterman debut.

Well this morning when I picked up the paper from the porch, the sun was out, and the skies were clear and it was just beautiful. Now, in the afternoon, it's overcast and raining. My husby is out helping a friend move in this rain. Rainy days like this would be good for having soup for supper...........and hot cocoa!

Saw some of the devastation in Joplin. One of the factory reps (Thanks Valken) showed me the video from his chopper ride over the area. Unreal. The ground is actually ripped from the earth in places. Huge gouges that are simply... gone.

Mufasa, was it an F5 or close to one?

RE: The Weather Thread - Mufasa - 06-12-2011 08:44 PM

I've heard F4 and F5. After seeing what it did, there is very little doubt that it was incredibly powerful... whatever the wind speed. Roofs ripped from homes. Homes removed from their foundations. Huge, steel beamed interstate signs twisted and mangled, or ripped from their moorings and thrown for hundreds of yards. Swaths of trees that look as if a giant hand simply swatted them out of the way.
One thing that the Valken rep mentioned was that there were two twisters that eventually melded into one. You can see on the video where they merged into the monster that hit Joplin.

Scary, scary just what the wind can do in mere seconds.

The sun's out here on Long Island today, but the humidity-yuck! My limbs get cold in the AC after awhile and then it feels nice outdoors until I get sticky and I come back in. Hard to find the "happy medium."

June in the Great Northwest. Schizophrenic. It's always like this in June - sunny and warm one day, cold and wet the next. Thursday was a beautiful summery day..... which became cloudy Friday and overcast and downright chilly today. I'm still trying to decide what to wear to the Vancouver show, it all depends on whether June decides it's summer or not. Undecided

Is anyone else in the area tempted to build an ark?
There have been some torrential downpours today, and a flash flood warning has been issued.
However, it was a lovely day to look at houses, because I could see which ones had leaks in the basement or roof.

We had some amazing lightning last night with some torrential downpours as well. At least no severe storms were in our area.
