I hope that your power is back on soon Rey and that you have absolutely no damage to your property!

Wow Rey, I'm glad that you and your family are alright! I hope it's not too hot and humid.

It's funny, I was going to post how beautiful and dry it has been here on Long island for the past week and how perfect it's supposed to be this week. Everything's in July full bloom and it all feels great. Then I read your account of the Chicago storms and I'm not certain it's appropriate.

I'm not sure which is more disturbing. What you just shared, or that you actually have such detailed knowledge of it. LOL

It`s all Scout survival stuff - Well I read about some downed pilots drinking their urine, which passes through quicker each time as it is more filtered. The fish eyes I read about a family stranded at sea with no water, and the enema bit Bear Grylls mentioned on TV the other day, again a family at sea, no fluids, kids de-hydrating and could not keep down any fluids, so the Mother gave them an enema of the fish blood and other stuff, so they would absorb some fluids from there.

On a personal level Livi was really poorly as a young girl, raging temperature and could not keep any paracetamol down (which would lower her temp), so the doctors administered paracetamol as a suppository, to do the same.

Now if you are lost without a compass, and have an analogue wrist watch, point the hour hand at the Sun, and bisect the angle between the hour hand and 12 o`clock, and that is the North South line........

Also, always follow water ways the way they are flowing, and you will find habitation eventually.....

I hope it's cooling down by Rey, as it is here. Only 68 degrees at the moment. That's quite a change from the 90 it was on Sunday.

Wow! You ARE a Bear Grylls fan! I'm more partial to Les Stroud Smile

Rey-Hope all is well or at least as well as possible!

RE: The Weather Thread - Rey - 07-14-2011 06:52 PM

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Stopped by a friends house to pick up water and logging on the internet briefly. Everyone in my family is fine, and no damage to my house other than all the tree branches down, so I feel lucky there as others have had more damage.

Going on day 5 now with no power or water. Has been a challenge to say the least. Been going back and forth to a friends house to get water (for the toilet, etc.). Com Ed (the power company) has put me at the bottom of their list apparently. They have restored the power for lighting billboards in my area before helping people that need water.

I hope the power comes back soon, as it is quite a primitive living situation. Sure I wish I had a generator, but so does everyone else, and it is too late for that this time. They promise maybe the power will be back on tomorrow.

NWo: I will try your survival techniques tomorrow. Undecided (Wink)

Speak Soon,
Rey

Glad you are okay, Rey. Smile Sucks to be without power that long.

Seriously, I know the Chicago area is huge,so they have a large area to service, but to be without water and power for that long is awful!

Just got back from escorting the remains of SGT Terryl Pasker to the funeral home. I can honestly say - its hot, and just going to get hotter. 17 miles of going 40 MPH. Thought we would never make it! And to boot, had the chaps on and my leather vest with denim shirt. I am a bit thirsty.
