It\'s cold, rainy and windy today. So I wonder how many little goblins, princesses, monsters and such will be at my door today for a treat???

Wow, looks like our NE B&G buds are having a rough go of it! 36' of snow and 3 million without power? We've been pretty lucky in the NE side of Washington, cold, but no white stuff...yet! Got the boat, lawn mower and 'Betty' all winterized over the weekend, so we won't have any "surprises" come next spring! Still looking for a decent snowblower that I won't have to mortgage the house on...the lower back can't take all that shoveling anymore!

Will post this here and the book group thread. We got slammed in southern NH Saturday night. My area only got about a foot (jaffrey, NH got 31") of heavy , wet snow that sent trees and branches crashing down and sent us into the dark. Now day two without power, so no computer at home. The bookstore is running fine; folks are browsing for candlelight reading, cell phone recharging, and basically just getting out of the house. Two young men drove up after seeing me taking on a downed limb with a hatchet and took their chainsaw to it. Lots of community support going on. Third major power outage in this area in the last 5 years - we're getting good at indoor winter camping. Life is rustic, but good. Fear not!

Glad to hear you are OK, Brian. It is definitely nice to know that people are helping others. Very positive! "Fear not!" I love it! That's my motto! Hang in there with your "camping" We'll be thinking warm thoughts for you all!

Brian, I'm glad you checked in! Good to hear that you're not under a few feet of snow. Power outage can be a real pain but at least the store is up and, from the sound of it, doing well. Hang in there, stay warm and keep checking in.

We had a tree come down across our road last year - a huge cedar - but the county wouldn't let us take our tools to it. Took them 2 days to clear it. Sheesh!

RE: The Weather Thread - BrianW - 11-01-2011 07:56 AM

The warm days post-storm have been a blessing. Snow's disappearing and making it easier for crews to do their jobs. I still don't see power coming my way at home for another day or two. I quite enjoy the rustic simplicity. Except (and this was a secret) that I'm nearing my final project in an Intro to digital photography course (see? told you I'd kick my own ass!) and without power at home, I'm dead in the water. Stores here still run Win98 - they can't handle the truth - to quote Jack Nicholson, so no help here. Still, onward! Thanks for the warm wishes all.
