That could be VERY doable. I am seriously tempted. Gonna have to talk to the wife about aweekend trip to Wichita( she used to live there, and has friends there). One question though, Is that vehicle in the first picture a "Volkswagen Thing" ? If it is, someone did a great job converting it into what we see here.. Oh that’s the kubelwagon, its kind of Germany’s version of the jeep. It’s pretty much a VW Beetle with a different body on it. It was actually designed by Porsche. That specific one in the picture I’m not sure where it came from, whether original or a replica. Replica bodies can now be purchased and put onto an old VW Beetle frame to make one. But yes, the kubelwagon was the basis of the VW Thing that came out in the 60’s, but I don’t think the one in the picture is a “Thing”. RE: Tanks, Planes, Boats, Military Stuff - smoker guy - 04-26-2012 11:36 AM I just got the chance to read the blog, and I must say very cool Rey. ![]() I wonder, did anyone there know that Tiger Tank replica is not a Tiger? If memory serves, isn't it a T-34 rebuilt to look like a Tiger? It would be cool if it was a real Tiger. The bolt pattern of the wheels was a dead giveaway that it had some Volkswagen heritage going on... As far as the crowd goes we always tell them it is a replica if they ask. We always tell them it was a prop for a movie. A real Tiger is very rare and valuable and there are not many left at all, yet alone one that runs. It was built by the movie company to use for filming "Saving Private Ryan", also used in "Band of Brothers", and yes it is based on a Russian tank. We figure if it was good enough for the movie, its good enough for these reenactments. It is smaller than the real thing though, but still a nice looking tank to have for the battles. I do remember that Tiger replica from Saving Private Ryan...it took me more than a couple of viewings to figure out it was a replica. A real Tiger is VERY rare, I know of the one in the Paris Museum that runs, other than that, I don't know of any. If I remember correctly, didn't they weigh in somewhere around 60 tons? MASSIVE!

Actually - that is unfair, their underground fought bravely and aggressively..... Still, the old joke, "French rifle for sale, never fired, dropped only once" RE: Tanks, Planes, Boats, Military Stuff - smoker guy - 04-27-2012 02:55 PM (04-27-2012 02:30 PM)NWoBHM Wrote:Quote:Paris Museum that runs LOL, good one. Mayhpas they just need the Foreign Legion to train their regular troops. The Underground did fight hard tho. |
