Painting, Sketching etc - old honda rider - 08-06-2011 02:14 PM To my great shame, I have ZERO talent in this area. I sincerely wish I could draw or paint, but everything seems to come out looking as if a 6-year-old did it. (Actually, that's an insult to 6-year-old's, but I digress.) Recently I saw a book called Drawing on the Right Side of your Brain. And of course the first thing that came to mind was, "Well, how do you remove the skull first?" Reason I ask is that a co-worker does watercolours of flowers and fields and all that. She's also sold some of her stuff for some decent coin. I figured, hey, if SHE can do it... Anyway, do you have some artwork you'd like to share? RE: Painting, Sketching etc - NWoBHM - 08-06-2011 02:27 PM My daughter Belle has an amazing talent for art. I think you either have it or you don`t, although when you see the art produced by brain damaged people it is amazing how the brain damage unlocked some link to the part of the brain which manages that ability. I read that obviously art / music etc is managed in the right hemisphere (which controls the LHS of our bodies - often why artists are left handed), and technical stuff, reasoning / maths is in the left hemisphere - thus if you want to have an empathetic telephone conversation put the phone to your left ear, (I always do), but if you want to manage technical information, figures, switch to your right ear, to allow the left hemisphere to manage it. I read also that Pilots in Vietnam had to switch off a lot of information being sent to them via various warnings, (SAM missile, launched, Mig on your tail etc), as this required processing by the Left Hemisphere, but flying requires Right Hemisphere input as it is an art.......Think about driving or riding, and then sensory overload from traffic signals, warning signes etc..... RE: Painting, Sketching etc - Scythe Matters - 08-09-2011 05:33 PM My daughter is the artist in my family, too. She favors manga-style and is quite good. I had Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain recommended to me many years ago. But it didn't help. OTOH, I'm quite good at calligraphy.* ![]() Why I can do the one and not the other, I have no idea. ![]() *Those large block letters are actually graphic arts stickers. But the rest of it was all me.... RE: Painting, Sketching etc - Scooter Britches - 08-09-2011 06:14 PM Outstanding quote...LOVE MPFC!!!! NI!
