RE: Photography
Yesterday I took a little DAY trip on my Harley over to Freedom Rock in western Iowa. The artist has repainted it and I always like to ride over to see his latest work and I was NOT disappointed. Here are a few views of this Rock:

This side commemorates the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

This side honors Petty Officer 2nd Class Taylor Morris. The helicopter image contains the ashes of a fallen soldier whose ashes were mixed in to the paint and remain there.

The image here honors the 5 Sullivan Brothers from Waterloo, Iowa, who were killed in action during WWII aboard the USS Juneau on November 13, 1942.

This is the signature of the artist - Note his nickname!!!

So glad you got out for a ride, Boomer!

That is pretty amazing artwork for a big rock. Wink

LOL and if it hadn't been for the 60 mph howling crosswind gale, it would have been. Smile

Really? I couldn't even tell. Reminds me of a trip I took across Kansas a few years ago. I kept entirely on rural back roads through some of the former dust bowl regions. It was so windy that day another mini dust bowl formed just for me. No Black Blizzard though, not that bad, but an interesting spectacle.

Cool! The picture I have right before the pano is a shot on the road behind where we stopped, and you can see a truck coming towards us with the dust he's kicking up blowing at right-angles to the road. Looks much more desolate than the pano....

It means shun the pike, as in avoid the turnpike. Or, taking the back roads, the scenic roads, and avoiding the major highways and interstates where everyone else is. It takes longer, and you can get lost, but you see more and it is more fun.

It's also a term Bubba likes to use in his writings, to describe his method of traveling, so it will be mentioned now and again here at the forum in reference to that.
