RE: What are you listening to?
Well, you may want to qualify that. In my case, my kids either listen to the Jonas Brothers (gag me with a chainsaw) or death metal (ACK SAVE ME!) and their friends usually listen to RAP crap. Trying to get them to listen to jazz, or rock n roll, or even Barry Manilow (icky stinky poo poo!) is in direct violation of their musical standards!
So if anyone has any new stuff to recommend - by all means..... ALLOW YOURSELF! Primary Principle - "It must NEVER be my fault" |

I agree with RN.

Okay reasonable compromise, Alter Bridge, Foo Foo Fighters, the kids in my neck of the woods want to dance to Joan Jett, then again these kids are nearly thirty.
I like the old Glen Miller, or an occasional waltz. Hoom Pah Pah, Hoom Pah Pah! And a 1, 2, 3..1,2 ,3, A thank you boys! Lawrence, you gotta thing, Larry Welk come on over to the bar and tell me a story. Currently listening to Ian Anderson, Divinities. A little light music with an afternoon Sam Adams. Always a fine choice. That was after a double dose of Farewell to Kings and Hold Your fire ( my favorite) "Listen...Jump on a moonbeam and rise, ride it, glide it all the way" |

RE: What are you listening to?
Thoroughly disgusted with the apparent death of melody and just...fun in N. American music, I've happily discovered a place where they still have it: Japan. Oddly, 90% of male J-rock singers have that weird, geeky thing like Spandau Ballet where they sound like they're swallowing their own voice - 'not up on my vocal pedagogy terms, but it's something like "sub-laryngial passagio presto-geeko" - while virtually all of the female J-rock singers sound just like Munchkins huffing helium. 'Don't like geek; helium-huffing Munchkins are acceptable.
So a coupla years ago I stumbled onto a now-defunct '90s band called Judy And Mary (an analog for yin and yang, reportedly.) Singer Yuki Isoya has the most outrageous sense of melody I've heard in my entire life, and a sense of joyful exuberance that's a little hard to describe. Bassist Yoshihito Onda sounds like a cross between the late Gary Thain and...another guy whose name starts with "G"; drummer Kohto Igarashi plays with the same crisp economy as Katché or...that other guy; guitarist Takuya Asanuma isn't a flashy soloist but is constantly weaving intricate fills into the mix. Have a look-see: "Lucky Pool" N.B.: Yuki-chan's lyrics are a mystery even in translation, but I know for a fact that she's singing about beer in this one, at least for awhile... |

These guys always make me feel so good. In fact brought back the faith that real music still exists.
Done in their home studio. http://www.youtube.com/user/PomplamooseM...olz7V12evc "One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating" |

RE: What are you listening to?
As long as were sharing some likes and video links,
I was sanding the walls the other day so I can do some painting inside, and was putting on some old CD's to keep me motivated. Came across this one, I like it a lot, but forgot about it. The band, "Garbage", the song "Special". This used to be my favorite song for a while. I really like the video too, very creative for a music video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es5wjM7i9PQ Their song #1 Crush really blows me away too. Well-weathered leather, hot metal and oil, the scented country air.. |
