Ahh, they must have moved the QC games from when i competed there. Last time I competed there, it was held at the fairgrounds away from the river. Don't recall the street. But, was Davenport, IA.

Sadly, none of the athletes look familiar from 2006 when I competed. Sad

Have a few pics from '06 QC games. But, this is my favorite (Sorry ladies, games require shorts underneath).

No way...I was at the QC games the year before with Andorra, the group with the big red tents. Sadly this year they weren`t able to make it, and it was moved to a park right on the river. But I know the fairgrounds you are talking about, I believe the street is Locust.

Great pics, SG! Smile

Anyone who can lift and toss a kaber is tough enough! Wow.

I completely agree Scythe. The guy in the pic with me won the Kaber toss with an 11o'clock toss(12 o'clock position being perfect). He, his wife, my wife and I are all GOOD friends who met thru medieval re-enactment. He and I are a bit alike...as in we wanted to learn sword fighting, bashing things with metal sticksTongue.

Thanks for the update, I'm not familiar with who actually puts on QC Celtic festival. But, Mark McVeigh used to organize the Heavy Events. Unfortunately, it's been a few years since I competed as health issues sidelined me so I'm out of the loop now.

Nearly all of the athletes are a great group of guys. I never looked at it as I was competing against any of them. I was throwing, or competing, with them. We were all joking around if we weren't throwing, and we would help each other out while on the field. This wasn't just at QC, it was at all of them. For myself, I competed in the Midwest primarily but also was up in Fergus, Ontario a number of years ago (wish I had more time to go visit Toronto while up there).

For those who've never seen a Highland Games, well worth finding one and watching if you can. Each athlete competes in a series of events for an overall score.

Here's a link to what each event is and some additional info:

BTW, the correct spelling is "Caber". Wink

Ah, bashing things with sticks. I remember my time in the SCA.... I used to Field Marshall and act as a Medic. My daughter still does now and then. Good times Big Grin
