RE: Birds and Butterflies
The coolest thing happened this afternoon. We had a baby ruby throated hummingbird lost in the bookstore this afternoon. I grabbed a sponge mop and used it to guide her (I say her because she had no red throat patch) towards the door. She was really getting tuckered out and I was growing worried, when she simply landed on the inverted mop head and allowed me to carry her out. Then I tranferred her onto my hand and I held a baby hummingbird! So delicate, so beautiful. My coworker Melanie was just finishing lunch and came over to share a drink of water with the little miss (Dunkin Donuts sugar added). She sat on my hand for about fifteen minutes, resting and sipping. I put her on the roof of Mel's car to minimize any stress and a couple minutes later she said cheep cheep and flew off. I held a baby hummingbird!!!

Well of course I did. Like all the other amazing things I've witnessed over the years, I turn to myself and say, "Good thing I left my camera at home." Ouch! Neither of us carry a phone, hence no pix, just the story. I can draw a quick courtroom sketch - how's that? Just got to find a shiny green crayon - hold on...

There are several native american cultures who would suggest things like that are a sign of a divine intervention, but I'd like to think its small blessings like that enrich us and make us what we are!! Thanks for sharing!

Brian-that is so totally cool! ...and it's no surprise to me that you are in a book store when it happened. You must be the most well-read guy "I know."

RE: Birds and Butterflies
Thanks all. Right place, right time. On the job 23+ years now. Chased a chipmunk out the day before. Not as glamorous. A few years ago I rescued a little brown bat that was lost in the store. Better.
