RE: Favourite Films
I keep asking for this film for Christmas and birthday, but it never shows up.
There was something on last night which I missed - the sinking of the Laconia? Or something like that, where the U Boat Captain took the survivors on board after he sank it - and because the survivors were now on deck, couldnt dive when attacked, (as he apparently was) by aircraft. A true story from all accounts. |

RE: Favourite Films
I got that for my birthday about 9 years ago, and only played it once, in the true German language version. I suppose I should go look for the Blu Ray, but I dont have that kind of time.
I missed that but I believe it was the Laconia, sunk by U-156. It was probably one of the most horrific events of early WWII because non combantants were involved. If I had known that was ON though - its one of my favorite eras to study. For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

RE: Favourite Films
I went a saw True Grit. The movie rocked until the last 20 minutes. But I'd see it again discarding the fact that the ending was a trainwreck.
In all fairness though the ending was purposeful and I could see the bigger picture of what was being said, but it was kind of weak. Overall, this movie kicked butt. Joe (now 16) and I have names for each other that are constantly evolving depending on the situation. This movie gave me his new name for years to come. La Beef! Hey La Beef come here a minute. Don't talk smack about Total!! |

RE: Favourite Films
Well dont spoil the movie for me. My wife and I have penciled in a mom dad date for tomorrow afternoon and thats the movie we want to see. I have heard the movie follows more along the lines of the book, which might explain the ending.

RE: Favourite Films
I watched a favourite of mine today - "The one that got away", the story of Chris Ryan and his escape and evasion in Iraq when part of the SAS Bravo 2 Zero patrol.
Very poignant to see the characters who play Steve Lane, Vince Phillips and Bob Consiglio, (who were all killed in the patrol, 2 from hypothermia, and one - Bob - who died from a single round to the chest which ignited a phosphorus grenade). I have visited and paid my respects to these guys who are buried just up the road at St Martins Church Hereford, where most of the SAS are laid to rest. She looked at me and rolled those big brown eyes and said, "Oh, I would do it all for you, `cos you`re a Rocker" |
