Its like shes rounding third and sprinting for home, the crowd roars on! Pulling for the underdog to win again, and again!

Paige turning pages!

"Hello everyone,
Today Paige is still on the ventilator but her lungs are showing some improvement. Her morning x-ray revealed a pleural effusion near her left lung -- basically a pocket of fluid between her lung and ribcage. The fluid was drained with a small chest tube that will stay in as that pocket empties. It's a fairly common thing for young heart patients. Hopefully with it gone she will be able to breathe easier.
She is "sprinting" -- a one-hour trial without vent support -- to make sure she can breathe on her own. This will continue every so often tonight and tomorrow.
The goal is to extubate in the next couple days.
At that time, her doctors will get another opportunity to assess how her heart is doing and whether it is adjusting to the patch. Of everything going on day in and day out, that question has been the biggest, and scariest, of all.
It's been a long road for her and there is still much to figure out. She is making us so proud that she tolerates day after day of life in the hospital. She likes being read to once or twice a day and holds the pages open for us.
We know so many of you have been praying for her and we are very thankful you are keeping her in your mind every day. Please don't stop 'til she's home!
-Chris"

RE: Paiges corner
Paige and her parents, Chris and Chelsey, have been fighting this battle for 11 months now. She is showing signs of improvement but she's not out of the woods yet. Not by a long shot! She is hanging tough every day. Team Paige is there every minute and so are Chris and Chelsey.

Well Paigey is still extubated and had a decent, but very busy day. Her blood gases and chest x-ray have remained stable and she is trying to find her voice again with little "hums" here and there.

Not long after extubation she began to retract and use her accessory muscles to breathe. It was concerning because she had done this last week and eventually needed to be intubated. To make sure she doesn't lose ground Team Paige went into action! She was given Atrovent, a bronchodilator in the form of a nebulizer to help open her airways as well as a Racemic Epinephrine treatment to take care of any inflammation caused by the breathing tube. Her retractions improved after that and she rested more comfortably.

They performed an echo to study the movement of her diaphragm and had the ENT crew take a peek at her too. Right now the plan is to keep watching her, give Atrovent every 6 hours and a Racemic Epi treatment if she needs it. For right now she looks great.

At this point Paigey is becoming more alert. She tracks people coming and going around her bed and recognizes mom and dad. Her nurse found a mobile with a fish, jellyfish and seahorse to hang over her bed. She loved to swat at that thing! She actually feels good enough to find and pull at the tubes in her nose....yikes! She also has a pillow that staff members have been signing for her that she is currently trying to stuff in her mouth. haha Actually it's making her smile! So nice to see.

Here's hoping she has a fantastic night and a great chest x-ray in the morning!

We appreciate all your support!

Love,
Chelsea <3

Earlier: At this moment Paige is rearing and ready to come off the ventilator.
Send some encouragement her way!
Will update later.
