Shy Here is a glimmer of hope!

Good evening everyone,
The past couple days have been good ones for Paige. Her doctors have been able to continue weaning her sedatives, respiratory support and pacemaker. In turn, a little more Paige comes back every day.
Yesterday and today she got to sit up in a foam seat in her bed, play with toys, watch TV and have books read to her. She's definitely finding her voice and is hooting and screeching happily, even in her sleep at times!
Using her voice helps her move crud out of her lungs and keep her airway clear, a necessity as she forges ahead.
The question of whether her heart is accepting the patch is still up in the air, but she has gotten bigger over these past 31 days and that is key to her improving.
She will still have some time to grow as her sedatives are slowly and gradually weaned. This alone could take weeks but it is important to go slowly in order to avoid withdrawls.
She has excelled at charming all the staff here. Even the nurse manager said that "everyone here is a little in love with Paige." The staff really do seem to get attached to kids that are here long term, and Paige always loves seeing their faces come through the door. She will undoubtedly try to grab their nose or nametags should they get too close.
Until more questions are answered, we will not know when Paige will be going home. But the more time we're able to spend reading to her, and playing and talking with her, makes the days go by easier.
That's about it for now. Thanks for checking in, and thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers. You guys are great.
-Chris

C'mon Paige! Catch second gear!

Most of us are so caught up in life that we forget to live it.

RE: Paiges corner
A good note on a sad day! Man I bet they've had just about enough hospital food!

Hi everybody,
Today has been the latest in a string of a few really good days for our little girl. More than ever, she is playing, smiling, laughing, babbling and doing things that a 10-month old kid should! Her doctors and nurses got to see her sitting up in a chair today, holding and reading her numbers book all by herself! She continues to charm everybody and we're so happy they can see the kind of kid she really is, vs. the Paige that was sedated all the time or on the ventilator.
She is slowly and steadily being weaned off respiratory support, sedatives and painkillers and has been responding well. Her heart is still being paced at a steady rate but that will soon be weaned down in a couple days. This will also be done gradually to let her own rhythm take over and give her ventricle the exercise it needs to continue adjusting to the patch.
Paige is in a much better state than she was the last time she was taken off the ventilator. She is stronger, her lungs are clearer, and she is more able to forge ahead with daily challenges.
Chels and I have been able to spend a lot of time playing with Paige and we're noticing she is growing up! Just keeping her in her bed is starting to become a challenge for us.
Thanks to the benefits that were held this fall, we are financially stable and are even able to get ourselves some non-hospital food every now and then. Thats it for now, thanks for checking in everyone
