Like going back to where Ray Krok discovered the McDonald's brother's first place. I concur with Chip - if you're ever in the American southwest and see that In 'n' Out sign; if you're in the mood for a classic drive-in burger and fries, you are moments away from Nirvana, I kid you not. Their beef is always exceptional (and I grew up on a North Dakota cattle ranch so I'm a bit of a thumbs-up/thumbs-down snob about that); the vegetables they put on top are always crisp and fresh, every single time; they peel and dice fresh potatos for the fries on the spot, every day (never frozen,) and they use cholestrol-free vegetable oil to cook 'em. Another rare thing about In 'n' Out is that they treat their employees very well - which means jobs there are highly sought-after by high school kids, and the ones who get those jobs are very motivated and will bend over backward to make you happy. Their service is so uniformly great and military-efficient that it's almost a head-scratcher phenomenon in this day & age. It ain't gourmet, but it doesn't pretend to be. . |
