Antipasti
Buon Appetito ed Auguri!
Most of my family is Italian (Italian American, really; quite different than Italians in Italy from what I've experienced as a former Italian teacher and moderate traveler on the peninsula) and when I throw a house party I really go overboard for the antipasti. I let my wife deal with the main course which she prefers. I put out a spread of olives of every variety, usually dripping in oil with garlic, hot pepper, stuffed with cheese; generally 5 or 6 variations... Cherry Peppers (spicy preferable) stuffed with prosciutto and parmigiana. Prosciutto di Parma-expensive but melts in your mouth, and several high end table cheeses Asiago, Aged Gouda, etc.. Again, expensive but makes a big difference. ...oh, don't forget fresh brick oven baked bread and Ruffino Chianti Classico and a choice of Pinot Noir, Cabernet, etc...Open several bottles so everyone can taste and choose their favorite! "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." "Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup." "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." |
