An amazingly acted film, (as you might imagine with Branagh and especially and topically Firth), but also appalling in the clinical and financial determination of how best to eradicate all of Europe, (including the UK) of Jews, and yet somehow either derive some efficiency or productivity from this process.
Assembled at the meeting where all the Department heads, Military Officials, Ministers etc, who could influence, and accelerate the "production line", the argument from those assembled not being about the abhorence of what they are doing, but whether it translated to the bottom line.
A moving film.
Apparently the film is based on the actual transcript and minutes of the meeting!

I finally got around to watching “Conspiracy”. It is a really good movie. Those craving action and adventure might not like its slow pace, because it is a movie just about a meeting. But, what a meeting it was. How can a group of people gather together and discuss the best way to terminate millions of people? And do it while exchanging pleasantries, enjoying fine wine and food, and joking amongst themselves. At least there were some there who were thinking, “Well…maybe this is not such a good idea”, but even they, in the end, were persuaded to go with the majority. Frightening, but an important part of the history of the war that changed the world.

Hi Rey,

I am sure you knew - but I took a look to see how Heydrich`s fortunes went, (Branagh saying "after the war this house will be mine" etc) - I vaguely remembered a General being "assissinated" - I am not sure assassinated is the right word in total war, but that is Wiki for you - in Prague - and it was him - late in 1942, so he did`nt live much beyond the film timeline.

Apparently, one assassin ran up to Heydrich`s car and at point blank range opened fire, but the gun jammed - as Heydrich`s driver accelerated away, he was ordered to stop, by Heydrich, so he could draw his pistol and shoot his would be assailant - in doing so allowed the other assassin to throw a grenade or some sort of IED, which blow up on the side of the car wounding Heydrich.

The fabric on the door inside from all accounts was blown into Heydrich`s wounds and caused blood poisoning and ultimately death.

His right hand man at Wansee, (Eichmann) escaped to Argentina after the war - but the Mossad "lifted him" back to Israel where he was hanged for war crimes in 1962 (year I was born I note!)

She looked at me and rolled those big brown eyes and said, "Oh, I would do it all for you, `cos you`re a Rocker"

There just so happens to be a pretty good movie I have seen that deals with just that subject, the assassination of Heydrich, it is called "Operation Daybreak". Definitely worth watching if you have seen "Conspiracy". Here is a short youtube clip of it (although this may be a spoiler):

We rented the movie Megamind. It was cute and not bad for the cost of $2.50.

If I'm with my wife, or company, I'd rather spend time with them and have a discussion versus watching TV. Now, that being said, I don't mind snacking on something while watching movies. Typically, it's yogurt, water, or other healthy stuff. rarely is it chips & salsa, popcorn etc anymore.

As to favourite movies, difficult to call as it varies by genre and my mood:

Science Fiction:
Star Wars - Episode 4 (The one that started it all)

Fantasy:
Lord of the Rings series (Can't really break these apart)

Western:
Tombstone

War:
Full Metal Jacket (tie)
Saving Private Ryan (tie)

Comedy:
Down and out in Beverly Hills (tie)
The Great Outdoors (tie)

Action:
True Lies

There's tons of movies I really enjoy. Most are big films as I'm not really into the small budget films. Something I haven't quite acquired yet...

The ones I listed aren't necessarily because they're "great" for acting, special effects, etc. Just movies that I really enjoy because of various reasons and good memories with them.

So agree..I hate it when people say they "liked two towers, but not the brotherhood of the ring..." You can't divide between them! It's one movie, I'ts only been split up because it would be too long to show in the cinema

RE: Favourite Films
My absolute favourite film would have to be 'Glengarry Glen Ross', it's an acting masterclass and I love David Mamet's work. 'Heist' is another great one of his, very quote-worthy. The original 'Taking of Pelham 1,2,3', 'American Beauty' too.
Anything generally with Bill Murray, William H Macy, Willem Dafoe, Steve Buscemi, Frank Langella, Jack Lemmon...actually there's waaaay too many to go through. Every time I see a later Tom Hanks movie I can't help think of a certain Canadian fella...I could totally see him as Prof. Robert Langdon in the Da Vinci Code! Big Grin

There's a lot of it about.
