All three are great films. I was wondering if anyone here has heard of Big Wednesday with Jan-Michael vincent, Gary Busey, and William Katt. Its about the lives of three surfer friends in CA. A great, great film.

Also has anyone ever seen Fandango with Kevin Kostner, Sam Robards, and Judd Nelson. This is a comedy about five college friends on a road trip to pick up a bottle of Dom they buried in the Mexican desert. This one is a funny, funny film worth the seeing.

There is a sub-genre of films of which I'm especially fond, though it's not officially recognized, at least as far as I've seen: The "I can't believe the sh** that just happened" film.

Once in awhile someone will come up with a story with so many unexpected, outrageous, yet plausible twists and turns that you're left sitting there with an agape jaw and a goofy grin vying for control of your face. Examples:

"Romeo Is Bleeding";
"Blood Simple";
"Red Rock West";
"The Last Seduction";
"Triangle" (the one with Melissa George in it);

Ok, so "Triangle" isn't specifically plausible from a metaphysical standpoint, but it really, really messed with my head. In a good way. And it's got Melissa George in it.


They're part of that larger group of films that you end up watching for the umpteenth time when you surf onto them on cable, years after the fact, because they're irresistible. Those can cut across all genres. Some of my faves in that category, along with the previous:

"Dragonslayer" - worth the trip for the sound effects and incidental music alone; also a nifty story about the evils of sacrifice and corruption in timid yet pompous politicians;
"Galaxy Quest" - a hilarious tale about becoming, in real life and of do-or-die necessity, the hero you'd previously been play-acting...
"Serenity" - no explanation needed - one of the best SciFi movies (and TV series, criminally truncated,) ever produced.

There are dozens more, but I've droned long enough and I have early-stage Alzheimer's so they're not forthcoming anyway. Gimme awhile...

Well, SC, to be honest, I am a former pirate myself (wife says I still am!) so anything with a pirate and generally obnoxious behavior I am there for. We'll see. I'll put something out once I pass my "biker" judgement on it.
