They were a UK film producer who made "The Hammer House of Horror" series - really good generic horror films - a family friend was a camera man on them - who later did Harry Potter, or is that Harry Plopper nowadays.....

She looked at me and rolled those big brown eyes and said, "Oh, I would do it all for you, `cos you`re a Rocker"

RE: Favourite Films
Just read through this thread. Mufasa-can't believe you mentioned Waking Ned Devine! One of my favorites, but it's rare that anyone has even heard of it. I also liked Being There. The piano was haunting. Others are:

Out of Africa (I'm a hopeless romantic)
The Usual Suspects
Open Range
2001:A Space Odyssey
K-Pax
Seven
Meet Joe Black
Band of Brothers
Saving Private Ryan
Ronin
The Professional
How the West Was Won
The Ref
Jeremiah Johnson
Heartbreak Ridge

The only 2 movies I've walked out of were Dune and The Hangover

If I'd known you were French, I'd have worn galoshes...

You HAD to relaunch me on "Being There" didn't you! LOL!

The music was mostly Erik Satie as I recall...perfect for the film's mood.

Nung--
There you go! I didn't know it was Erik Satie. Learned about him as a music major a hundred years ago, but never really followed his music. You're right--the music WAS perfect.

Yes, indeed. Thank you. They boosted the careers of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee (who is still my favorite Dracula). Kate Bush even did a song about them Wink

Most people know The Gymnopedies since they appear so often in film, commercials, etc. But his other work is also similarly languid and luscious. He had a wacky sense of humor and irritated many people in the "traditional" music set. His "Music in the Shape of a Pear" was one of many examples. Music in Paris in the 1920s-1930s was going through many changes just as painting and sculpture and dance. Revolutionary times! (And lots of partying!)

I re-watched The Shipping News last night, can't believe it's been 10 years since it came out and the last time I watched it. A great wee movie and some absolutely beautiful scenery. I miss Kevin Spacey as an actor, he hasn't done many movies in the last few years.

In a Tom Hanks mood tonight, really fancied watching Castaway again, but the one remaining HMV in Leeds didn't have it. Dodgy

Anyone fans of the classic british Ealing comedies? The brilliant movies that Sir Alec Guinness did back in the day, like The Lady Killers, The Man in the White suit, The Lavender Hill Mob and Kind Hearts and Coronets.

There's a lot of it about.

RE: Favourite Films
Anyone seen the film "Food Inc."
Pretty disturbing.

My question to you all is: how many of you changed what you eat after seeing this film?

Very disturbing. I started eating more Raw food, especially stuff that's local and in season. Quite the education about the business or food.

RE: Favourite Films
Watched "The King's Speech" last night with Mrs. B. Excellent I thought. Having been stationed in Scotland I could relate a little better to it. One thing my wife asked me though - What would I have done if I ever saw Prince Charles coming at me? Good question - but the guy puts his pants on the same way I do, and his name ain't Peter Cottontail, so I probably would have bowed, shook his hand, and said "Whats Up Chuck!!"
