RE: Favourite Films
CD - Clockwork was so strange (by average Joe standards) that it drew incredible amounts of attention to Kubricks work.
That film made far more sense to me than his last, "Eyes Wide Shut". In all honesty, it is a shame that was his closing gift to cinema. Eyes Wide Shut, to me, never really went anywhere - other than to show what rich, wrinkled old goats are capable of along carnal lines. OK - so Tom and Nicole were the leads... and? She pisses him off while both are stoned, over an imaginary one-niter with some nobody naval officer. He goes a little nuts with jealousy and spends the next 48 hours scratching the underbelly of the beast, so to speak. Keep in mind that he never really takes part in anything, other than seeing it, and flirting dangerously close with bad juju (couldn't help it). I sat through it twice, and tried to see it through Kubricks eyes. No luck - it was a loosely woven bunch of circumstances with the only real message of "see what can happen when you make one bad choice" lurking in the background. The ending scene? Uhhh... really Stan? Oddly enough (might be wrong here) but the favorite for me was the only one of Stanleys films that was not nominated for an Oscar; The Shining. To this day, one of the most scary-as-sh!t films ever. You signed the contract - you must do my bidding
