RE: Favourite Films
I was reminded today of a childhood favorite; The Seven Faces Of Dr. Lao. It's an old George Pal movie that stars Tony Randall (yes, that Tony Randall) as the proprietor of a very odd circus. He plays all of the characters at the circus, which won William Tuttle and honorary Oscar for make-up. It's a simple but sweet film with a beautiful message. This little speech that Dr. Lao gives to the little boy has stayed with me for 45 years and it still makes me tear up:
Quote:"The way the sun goes down when you're tired, comes up when you want to be on the move. That's real magic. The way a leaf grows. The song of the birds. The way the desert looks at night, with the moon embracing it. Oh, my boy, that's... that's circus enough for anyone. Every time you watch a rainbow and feel wonder in your heart. Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust, but a mystery, a marvel, there in your hand. Every time you stop and think, "I'm alive, and being alive is fantastic!" Every time such a thing happens, you're part of the Circus of Dr. Lao. " It has a great blend of comedy and poignancy. I just love it
... in a world where I feel so small I can't stop thinking big! |
