Ice cream shacks that only open in the summer? We've got lots of them here in Peoria. My two faves are Emo's and Lou's Drive In. Lou's is, true to it's name, a drive in place where they have curb service still. And Emo's is a walk up joint at the intersection of two super busy roads. It has mega-awesome coney dogs (the secret sauce recipe, since the 50's, is for sale with the lot and building this year) and tamales. The steam them till they're mushy. I keep scissors in my car just to open Emo's tamales. The ice cream is just regular soft serve stuff, but it's more of an experience. Despite the huge pain of visiting the place, finding parking etc. I used to live right up the road, so a short mile walk was perfect to get there and back. Now I only get there a few times a year. Bummer. Hope the guy can sell the place to someone and keep the tradition going.
