Yesterday, August 2, was a public holiday here in Canada. I enjoyed the day riding with a buddy, tootling through the by-ways of southern Ontario, the Beaver Valley and parts in between.
A very good day all round. Slept like the proverbial baby last night. Got up this morning to the shrill buzz of the alarm, dragged a comb across my head, found my way downstairs and drank a cup, and looking up I noticed I was late... (yea, you know the drill). Get into the office on a fine sunny Tuesday morning, all primed to solve problems and create solutions for my workplace. One email stood out: "We would like to discuss something with you" from the HR department. I knew this couldn't be good. And I was right. The meeting started at 10:00, was over by 10:05. I was fired. According to the letter of separation, there were some problems which I had failed to work on. (What those problems were wasn't specified. I honestly and sincerely don't know what they were.) I'll be getting my final pay later this week. And I gotta tell ya, I'm completely gutted by this. They didn't really give me any concrete answers as to why, though since I was within the 90-day probationary period they really didn't have to give me any reasons. The letter just says, "...It does not appear that... you are the right fit..." (that's verbatim from the letter.) The idea - just the idea - of having to do yet-another job search completely fills me with an unfathomable amount of dread. "Middle aged white guy needs work." Yea, like that's going to get a ton of responses. I feel like eating a pistol. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain |

RE: Well crap
Don't you just LOVE form letters. I mean, its bad enough they let you go but to just hand you a form letter? I have seen those letters a few times. One office I worked at had them stashed in a filing cabinet all in a nice neat folder. You just had to pull one out and fill in the blanks! I didn't last long there.
Sorry to hear about this, but please do not make a meal out of your sidearm. For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

RE: Well crap
Sorry bro. And I can relate man all to well. I too am getting the boot. But in my case, I truly deserve it.
I had just few months to go, and I could have retired. Easy street. Beaches and babes! But I did something stupid and forfeited everything including my pension. BUT, my job does not truly define my being. Nor does your job truly define you. I got your back. Don't talk smack about Total!! |

RE: Well crap
Well, this just isn't my week.
Less than an hour ago I lowsided my motorcycle through an intersection. Minor damage to the instrument cluster, no biggie, no damage to me, which is why I wear All The Gear All The Time = ATGATT (yep, that's what that acronym means in my signature). I'd attach pics but apparently I've reached my quota. I think I should just enjoy a little scotch and let the rest of the day pass by without my further input. RE: Well crap
Love to see those pics. I feel like an extra in Crash! Can anybody tell me how to increase allowance in quota when it comes to posting images? Maybe I will finally have to admit the need for another moderator on my favorite forum! And as for "Well crap"....Well crap, I remember throwing a warehouse door open one day only to think, as I kept my arms in the air where everyone could see them, "It looks my life is about to go through a whole lot of changes!" And it wasn't only the plethora of firearms pointed in my direction that made this clear...... I was tired and running on fumes at that time and what I felt I really needed was a sojourn at the federal spa care of the US gov'ment. They obliged and I'm a better man for it. I guess what I'm trying to say without pissing everyone off with a chorus of, "Always look on the bright side of life" is, well crap...always look on the bright side of life amigos and amigas. What other choice do we have. Life aint easy, sayin'?
Sacred cows make the best hamburgers. I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughtnut... I don't need a receipt for the doughnut. I give you money and you give me the doughnut, end of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I can't imagine a scenario that I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. To some skeptical friend, 'Don't even act like I didn't get that doughnut, I've got the documentation right here... It's in my file at home. ...Under "D".' |

RE: Well crap
Not your week, man. I'm sorry it's so heavy right now. It's not always going to be like this. I sincerely hope that you're getting on OK and your spirits aren't too low. Don't even joke about feeling like wanting to eat a pistol.

RE: Well crap
Sorry to hear about your misfortunes rider... Best to you on the doors that will open up in the near future.
B - Let me do some digging and I'll get back to ya. I've been swamped with a TON of personal and professional stuff of late. Far more than I should be but they're some oddities... If'n ya need moderating help, the offer still stands and I'd be more than happy to help out.

RE: Well crap
Excellent stuff Mr B. Totally agree - for me its always not what dor gets shut in my face, but rather what new doors are opening in front of me. I never did time at THAT spa, but then again, I made my own ugliness to learn from.
Is there any way I can help ??? Not sure what I COULD do, but at least I am trainable - just ask me missus! For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!
