Quote:The idea - just the idea - of having to do yet-another job search completely fills me with an unfathomable amount of dread. "Middle aged white guy needs work." Yea, like that's going to get a ton of responses.

I feel like eating a pistol.
I was very sorry to read this, crap news. I have recently been in similar circumstances, and know many who have been there too. My advice to them has always been, "doors close and doors open", although when I was in the situation the advice did not seem that good, but it is true.

I read a better take on it which was, "doors close and doors open - the frustrating, (and awful bit) is the time in between".

Best wishes and good luck!

RE: Well crap
Hey. Thanks for the support everyone.

I was much, much too alarmist when I wrote the "eating a pistol" thing. Wasn't a very good idea to use that.

Bike is repaired so no worries there. Think I might take some time away from computers/job searching/whatnot and just go for an extended ride somewhere. No idea where. Sort of a mini-Ghost Rider type of thing.

Winners visualize the results of success and live in abundance.

RE: Well crap
Sorry to here about your bad fortunes, I know how this feels as well. In January I was let go from the company I've worked for forever. I started with them right out of high-school and worked there for over 16 years. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. No worries for me though, I am now a full time student who will re-enter the work force doing something I hope I'll love a whole lot more. When they gave me the news I just told myself "In adversity lies opportunity" and I started down this new path. Some things are out of our control and I try not to dwell on them, I just do what I can and keep on moving. If your potential travels will bring you through Northern California drop a note and maybe I can join you for a few miles. I just got another bike and its itchin' to get out on road. Good Luck!

RE: Well crap
Old Honda Rider, I am sorry to hear about your troubles. One thing I learned from all the jobs I have had is that there is no such thing as security. I've had the rug pulled out from under me more than once. I now have my own law practice after squeezing 7 years of college into 17, and after realizing that I'd rather run my own thing and steadily earn a modest income, than make more money working for someone else who could take it all away on a whim.

I say take the bull by the horns and use this as an opportunity to take control of your financial future. Sorry if that sounds like an infomercial, but that's what I did, and it's working so far. Use your skills and passions to create some income rather than wait for some jerk to hire you. Remember, the flip side of crisis is opportunity. Sometimes getting fired is the best thing that could have ever happened, even though it feels like crap at the time.
