Hobbies and Pastimes

RE: Hobbies and Pastimes
I hear you on that. I have 11 years to go, but I don't want to wish my life away. For now I try to cram all of my interests in somehow. It's not easy. I drift away from some for years-say stamp collecting (U.S.) and then all of a sudden on a whim pull it out, enjoy it for a season, then out it back again. My problem is that I have so many pastimes! Now I've been getting my Estes Model Rockets ready for a launch before my son turns 13. After that it may be awhile. ...but we share the drums and that will take us into my senior years. Music is never wasted time. Lately this cooking has captivated me as well. It's an excellent new hobby. never a waste of time either...

Damn you, Sock Monkey! You are making me remember some of my other hobbies! I too enjoy Stamps. I have a motley collection from around the world and the US. I have some great old examples from the 60's, especially from Southeast Asia (I was there as a lad). And rockets? I always enjoyed my days in that hobby too! Nothing like high powered stuff like that!! The trick is to enjoy the Here and Now while remembering the past and planning a bit for the future...

Now have some fun...

Sock Monkey! I love it! LOL...Dig out those stamps! I also have a postcard collection, US coin collections and ancient Roman coins, old political buttons, some pocket watches, wrist watches (nothing crazy but I do have a Bulova Acutron my friend built me-one of a kind-when he worked there), my 1979 Fender 25th Anniversary Stratocaster. Almost everything has a sentimental value, most not really monetary. These are my "treasures" but really meaningless in light of the people and memories. Sometimes these things and hobbies remind me of past relationships with the people I shared them with over my lifetime.

I love to have fun! Sock Monkey references are just the kind of quirky that I like! And I think that our collections keep us feeling like kids...you perfectly express the sentimental value issue that many of us feel about our worthless yet invaluable collections. I too delight in my collections: coins, old keys, match BOXES, etc. I also very much value the things I have from my late brother and father. If you PM me your address I'll dig out some old US stamps for you (because I have some duplicates).

Life is short - do what you enjoy, even if you have more hobbies than ability. It rounds a person out when they have a lot of interesting things to do. Idle minds are the devils workshop anyways!

Absolutely! Good advice.

Speaking of that kind of thing, did you hear about the dyslexic Devil-worshipper?

He prayed to Santa!

Hey! I pray to Santa, but as yet I have not found neither Megan Fox nor my NEW Harley under the tree, so if you ask me, I don't think he listens very well. That fat boy ain't getting any more cookies if he keeps that up!
