The International Inn and Saloon
Last year I took my family on a trip from New York to California. On the way back we decided to get off the 4-lane roads and took Highway 50 in Nevada (The loneliest road in America). We decided to stop and eat at the International Inn and Saloon in Austin, NV. We were greeted by the co-owner, who seated us, took our order, cooked it, and served it. The food was really good and the place was filled with all types of local memorabilia. The most interesting part of the visit was the saloon. As I walking into the saloon, I meet the other owner, the cook's husband. I looked around the ceiling and walls and notice they were covered in $1 dollar bills, with a few 5's, 10's and 20's here and there. Each bill had something written on it. When I asked about it, he said that those bill's have been put on the wall's over the past 30 years or so. To keep up with tradition, I pulled out a dollar, he gave me a marker and a tack. Told me to write what ever I wanted on it and find an empty place to put it. I put our family name on it and found a place near the doorway to the restaurant. When we left they gave us pencils for the kids and a few magnets for our fridge to remember our visit.
