Chickpeas and Habaneros
This is similar to "Hot Mess" but better and with more pictures!
These ingredients are approximated: 1/2 cup white onions 1/4 cup garlic 3 orange habanero peppers 2 long greet Thai peppers 1 long red pepper 2 whole tomatoes 1/2 cup mushrooms 1 Tbs cayenne pepper powder 1 Tbs curry powder 1 Tbs chili pepper powder 1 can of chickpeas 2-3 Tbs tomato paste salt pepper Ingredients http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess001.jpg -Chop the onions and garlic and combine them in a pot on mid-high heat. Cook them until they are golden. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess004.jpg http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess007.jpg -Take the seeds out of the peppers, and chop. (I used to eat the seeds but was recently told that could cause a lot of intestinal problems down the road, so take the seeds out.) -Add the peppers to the pot and stir. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess012.jpg -Add the mushrooms http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess013.jpg -Stir in the chopped or canned tomatoes. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess014.jpg -Add curry powder http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess017.jpg -Add cayenne pepper powder http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess019.jpg -Add chili powder http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess021.jpg -Stir everything and add a drop of oil if you need to but be careful of the steam that will come up and hit you in the nose. I caught a whiff and my lungs were a little spicy hot for a minute. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess022.jpg -Stir in the chickpeas http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess026.jpg -Add salt and pepper http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess027.jpg -Add a cup or two of water as needed. -Smash some of the chickpeas with a fork as they cook. -Add the tomato paste (if desired) - sorry I used the "Ralphs" brand: http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess035.jpg -Cook it on medium-high to boil with lid on, then reduce to low and cook with lid half way on. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess028.jpg -Cook until it reduces down to a thick chili-like consistency. That might take 20 minutes or so. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess032.jpg http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess036.jpg Bake some fresh bread ahead of time. 2 cups of flour 1 package of quick rising yeast salt warm water Pre-heat oven to 475 degrees (or you can use broil) -Stir the flour, yeast, and salt in a bowl. -Add some warm water -Make a big dough ball in the bowl and cover the bowl with a cloth and leave bowl on counter for about 45-60 minutes until the dough has risen double its size. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess030.jpg -Punch it down, cover it, and let it rise again for about 10-15 minutes. ("Let me put my love into you, babe..." Okay, that's a KISS reference. Here's a Motley Crue reference: If Tommy Lee can do ALL THAT and hold a camera, then the least I can do is this and hold a camera.) http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess033.jpg -Flour your hands and take the dough out of the bowl and put it on a pre-floured bread board. (Okay, those of us who did not go on to become professional musicians have found other uses for our equipment, like our throne holding up the bread board, LOL.) http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess040.jpg -Massage the dough with your hands into a baguette shape and think only of LOVE when you do this! http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess044.jpg -Put the baguette-shaped dough on a pre-oiled cookie sheet or other flat pan -Rub a little oil on the top of the bread and sprinkle some salt -Put it in the oven for 10-15 minutes. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess046.jpg -Take it out of the oven, slice it up, and use it to sop up the hot chickpeas!! http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess051.jpg http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess052.jpg Serve the meal with chilled white wine - you will need a cool drink to go with this heat!! http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess056.jpg http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae257...ess061.jpg With lots of love, ~Holly~ Holly - "If I'm not naked by the end of it, then it wasn't a meal!"

RE: Chickpeas and Habaneros
WOW - that looks divine! Must try that. Especially with the wine.
Not sure I want to know what Tommy Lee even does with a camera any more, but hey - to each their own. For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

RE: Chickpeas and Habaneros
I eat this almost every night. I am addicted to the heat! (Or maybe I just need something to go with the wine and this meal is a great excuse!)

RE: Chickpeas and Habaneros
Its the wine. Trust me those habaneros just are not romantic enough, even if they are, um.....hot.
![]() I tried some habs in my garden a few years ago. Might have to try on a patio garden see how they do. For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

You're right ... it's the wine!
Is there a red habanero out there? I seem to only see these orange ones at the store. I would like to be adventurous! Holly - "If I'm not naked by the end of it, then it wasn't a meal!"

RE: Chickpeas and Habaneros
As a matter of fact there IS such a thing as a red habanero.
These little gems are a bit radioactive. I tried one on an omlette once, and that was pretty darn HOT. Unfortunately red habs are a bit harder to get - actually a lot harder to get. I did find some at a farmers market but I have never seen them at a grocery store. Another name is the red sovina habanero, which I believe is about the hottest pepper you can find, if you can locate someone brave enough to grow them!
