Tip O' The Day

RE: Tip O' The Day
Hi Boomer - I know it does seem simple, but I lost my job, (no great hardship as I hated it) and then started my own business - now I do short term (9 month ish) consultancy work, which is very well paid, and towards the point when I am starting to hate it again, the contract ends, and I can spend a few months in my studio with my recording gear, my drums, and pretend to be a rock star for a while - my goal is to make this part my living and life!! If the blood pressure doesnt get me first!!

RE: Tip O' The Day
Here's a tip to those of us in the deep freeze this week:
When you plan time to scrape the ice off of the car windows, leave time to scrape the inside of the windshield as well...you might have to do that as well.
I had to this morning!

The Groundhog lied.

RE: Tip O' The Day
Well, if things go the way I think they will - I may lose MY job as well. Its not something I relish, but part of me says "Via Con Dios ya pig herdin immigrants" but the other part says "Whoa Nelly". If my wife's health were better, I'd probably have left a few years ago. I went from one shorty Napoleon-like dictator to a sheep shearin bull faced half pint tyrant. Bottom line - we dont get along with engineers. I do have my own consulting business but I dont make nearly what I need to survive. As I am reminded, however, we survived thru much worse and came out the back end smellin like a rose. I guess its just choosing what I can tolerate more - Al Capone Jr, or unemployment.

RE: Tip O' The Day
I started a new job Nov 1 (explains my light contributions around here). I got almost no training, and it was a brand new area of our company to me - HR to be exact. While I always thought I would love getting out of the nuts n bolts side of the company and into the people side, it's not been great. In fact, I just got my butt chewed off (CHEWED) for missing a deadline. Did I mention I've been there less than two months with no training? Only three more years of this, AND I can barely pay my meager bills on the more meager salary I make? On top of being back in school as a full time student? Could be the year old Tiffer eats a lead appetizer...

RE: Tip O' The Day
I am afraid that most people in business are complete pr#cks. You occasionally meet the most talented people, who because they are so talented do not need to throw their weight around, are compassionate, and funny, and as a result great leaders - the rest are cover their ar#e people quick to sling the mud in other peoples direction to save their own skin........and ( and I never understand this bit) are seen as good leaders..........actually Eureka I do see it...........the bullsh#ters recognise their own and promote them.

Wish I was a rock star........I guess though there is a lot of sh#t here too, "glittering prizes, endless compromises"

RE: Tip O' The Day
I am always confounded by people who insist on being total idiots in any professional atmosphere. I work with three of them, and they dont have a common sense bone in their bodies. There have only been a couple in my career who I would follow into the muck and mire with. They are natural leaders, ones who compliment you with high praise on a job done right, and pull you aside and "teach"...not reprimand on less than nominal job performance. One of them is now a four star admiral at the Pentagon. Another runs an engineering firm I used to work for, but was laid off due to lack of work (lousy darn dot coms anyways). One that USED to be like that is my business associate. Lately he has turned into more of a Scrooge than anything else. Not sure if that magical age of 62 has him down or if he is just suffering from high blood pressure and lack of a love life.

RE: Tip O' The Day
I dont know what his problem is. I tell ya he needs to do something.....grab the wife go to warmer climates find a beach and let nature take its course. At one point earlier this year a number of folks I know were wanting to take up a collection just to bring him back to earth. I aint sure he would know what to do with a "blow up" doll....

On a side note.....can someone tell me how my post count has gotten that high? Tell me I am not some "chatty bohemian" from Transylvania. That number has GOT to be wrong.

RE: Tip O' The Day
1K posts? Yikes! And to think it was Brutus and I for a while with most posts... I'm ashamed to say I've been gone too much!

Hope you can find something that works, or make the current on work out, Boomer. I used to do my own computer consulting for a few years and did quite well with it until medical issues came up and forced me into working for someone else again because of the benefits. In a sense, it's a good thing. But, I do miss the freedoms that came with being your own boss.

RE: Tip O' The Day
That number CANT be right. There is something wrong here....I cant be THAT talkative....am I? Cuz if I am - thats pretty embarassing. It says I have over 14% of the posts.....I may have to shut....UP!

I hope my wife AND I can find solutions. We want out of here so badly, but not with her health the way it is. I am almost to the point where I am about to close down my consulting business and just concentrate on home and riding my Harley. Its gotten to the point where our stress level is so bad, we took our Christmas pictures tonight and golly - we look awful!

Ok - I'll shut up. I already chased off Muffy.
