Amen, brother. You put that so very, very well.

Agreed. I must have missed the type of consulting you do. But, most times you can find something, somewhere. It sounds like you and I have some very similar circumstances Boom. It's not easy, I'll say that. But, to know that my wife and I are making the most of it on our own terms (well, as much as we possibly can) as well as doing the right thing, makes it worthwhile. Very difficult. But, we can look back and say "We did it".

This year has been brutal. I'm hoping it's the end of a few years of spiraling downwards (since Feb '07) and we're finally starting to climb back out. Time will tell.

Best to you two on you adventures as well but also know you're not alone. Drop me a line if you need to chat. Always available for helping out.

RE: Tip O' The Day
Actually no you cant. Land surveyors by their very nature are governed state by state. Our licensure is governed by State Codes to ensure compliance to that states land laws. Plus - I only have half a license. I am trying to get the other half of my licensure exam passed. Now yeah I could do drafting and design work like I do now, but I would have to work under someone to do that like I do now. But -with the economy, I'd be a sitting duck compared to some of these college kids who come out of college with their four year degrees and can whiz bang up a whole design in less time than a cappucino. Now - engineers, on the other hand, can move from state to state without taking their state exam and transfer the license by "comity". Surveyors are not so fortunate.

The other hard part is that as someone doing civil design work, you rarely an engineering firm without a design technician or an engineering associate actually doing those designs like I am now.

RE: Tip O' The Day
I officially got my "marching orders" from the current contract I am on - finish end January. I could have done with another couple of months, but hopefully I will pick that up on another contract elsewhere before my financial year end.
So I will be playing around in my recording studio for a bit - I might treat myself to Superior Drummer 2.0 as an RTAS VSTi plug in, or maybe also Abbey Road 70`s drums (having been listening a lot to Simon Kirke and Free and Bad Co and quite liking that drum sound of Mic on snare, bass, hi hat, and two overheads).

Ahhh dude. I know all bout it. And passing the time is awful when your a full throttle kinda guy.
That "in the mean time" mind set is something I have a very hard time with. I want what I want and I want it now (speaking in the scope of employment).
I like your ideas though. That's healthy and can only make you a better drummer. In my "meantime" I've taught myself to play guitar (very poorly mind you) and I am going onto the bass.
Drumming will always be my first love, instrument speaking. I've been experimenting with recording and miking. That takes up most of my time as does my phone calls and letter writing begging for a jobSmile

Don't talk smack about Total!!

I got a Digi 003 and PTLE 8 about a year ago. Converted half the garage into a nice recording studio and put all this gear in there with my Roland TD20K and Tama Superstar, and just started playing around with it - although it is a huge learning curve, as the PT is on a Mac book pro, and I have grown up on Windows etc - but I love having fun with it.

I would like to do an album in here one day with the band - but the guitarists want full on power 4 mics a big room and PT HD so their amps and speakers can scream - and they wont (at the moment) consider guitar modelling like Digi Rack 11 etc - Unfortunately or fortunately our last album was made in some superior studios with superior people, and therefore we worry about trying to achieve the same for less, I suppose.
