So I will mail out to the Brum gig as suggested with our compliments from the Grill........

Who wants to start a poll on whether -

He will wear it at the gig
Not wear it at the gig
Give it to Michael
Give it to Brutus
Give it to Olivia as a big nightie
Give it to Ged/Alex
Give it to Lorne to polish them DW`s
I have a few more for you:
Use it as a helmet rag.
Use it to wipe the windshield on the motorcycle.
Give it to Carrie to use for a work out shirt.
Take a picture of it and feature it in the next update.

First, thank you Nwo! That was truly above and beyond the call of duty. My choice -- or my hope -- is that Bubba will at least put it on long enough for Brutus to take a picture. After that, who knows?

As for starstruck... my Hubby has worked in TV for 30 years. I've met a lot of "celebrities" and most of them have been very nice. But, ya know, they are just folks, too. I've found that, when I am given the chance to chat with someone, I'm much more interested in their views on current events, what they like to do to relax, what they're reading... you know, everyday stuff. I mean, we already know about whatever it is they do that puts them in the spotlight, don't we? There are much more interesting things to talk about and I want to discuss things that we have in common, not why they are where they are. I've had some pretty nice chats, too Smile

... in a world where I feel so small I can't stop thinking big!

That's a VERY interesting comment, Scythe, and right in line with what I've heard from Bubba on numerous documentaries, ie: he doesn't get the adulation thing. The few celebrities and famous people I've met/known have longed for a few moments of normalcy, a few precious seconds out of "The Guilded Cage". I bet they really appreciated the time you spent with THEM.

On a somewhat similar note, I'm always reminded of something Ged said on one of their DVDs after getting off of a plane. There was a throng of people with signs, heralding their arrival. Ged turned to the camera and said, "This is not a noble pursuit."

THAT is why this band has been together for so long.

It must be a mixed blessing, to be sure. Exciting when you first start to gain some fame, but upsetting when you need the attention to go away and it just won't.

RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
Has anyone else taken into consideration that with the writing of his books, Bubba has allowed more of himself to be "put out there" than ever before. I was thinking the other night whilst reading Roadshow for the first time (I know-I know....) that perhaps the nut jobs need to actually read the books. Perhaps for the ones that have not - if they would read the books, they would get a better view of the man... or at least a more informed one, and they wouldn't be so... "nuts".

Make sense to anyone?

Exactly. With the information that can be gleaned from his writings, you would think that there would not be so many rabid seekers out there. But - who knows... some people are just plain nuts.

Great point, Mufasa, and one I considered regarding the latest Update. All the lyrics, books, blogs, are his side of the conversation, and he's been offering that conversation to us for years. Even if we can't respond in person, we still think about what we might say or feel, and to me, that's the gift: something to think about. He's shared so much of himself in his words...I'm awed that he thinks enough of us to do it.

"I will quietly resist."

Well, I can't speak for them, but it must be nice to be able to chat with someone without having to deal with being on a pedestal. I love that the Boyz don't take themselves seriously or get big heads. Those who do automatically become anathema as far as I'm concerned. Who wants to talk to someone who can't change the subject from him or herself?

Absolutely! We really do know so much more about Bubba and his life and even his feelings than we should expect. He is very giving of himself, and, in this generosity, gives us much more than just information. He gives us empathy. He gives us joy and pain and love. I can't tell you how many times I have read something -- in a book or a "news report" -- and had to stop and process it through my own lens, usually ending up in tears. One day, I hope to be able to thank him face-to-face for what he did for me. But even if I can't, I hope he knows, because he has helped so many of us. Thank you, Bubba.
