I'll try to do that, though I have three services Sunday on bass guitar (it's great playing Geddy Lee, John Entwistle and John Paul Jones style at church-I rock!); after that I hope to spend some quiet time with the family and in the garden! A nice glass of red would be nice too! Yeah, well you never heard me play! LOL. So we had our Day of Drum Kit Saturday with professional drummers "Jobee" Bergamini and Mike Sorrentino. It was a great day of drumming, especially for the two lucky kids (and this big one) who got to work with them for four hours. Jobee played along with four of his 4Front tracks-crazy stuff....highly recommended for Prog fans-as a warm-up to a clinic he's running in NYC soon. I was so eager to get behind the kit and show what I've learned this past year (Jobee graced us last year at this time-Mike is my regular teacher). Given that I had been in concert mode for the spring meant that I played very little drums, so I spent some time Friday warming up to get my chops a little better. Figures...Mike has me play a stright groove and then tells me to throw in some tom fills...I played like it was my first time on a kit (I exaggerate but it was quite bad). I was so down after that. It's funny that whenever I play a certain level at home and am satisfied with my progress, I totally screw it up in my lesson or when I'm "on the spot." Very humbling. Jobee respectfully recounted some recent experiences which was fun. Michael: I have to take your side on the gun control issue. "If you outlaw guns, then only outlaws will have guns." I didn't express my opinion though. Another bit of advice: never take pain killers with scotch...on an empty stomach...bad mix. More to come on all of this. "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." "Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup." "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." |
