RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
Vincent, I started listening to Jazz as a teenager. LOL... I fully admit my motivation was that of a teenager... I listened to it because my parents hated it! (ALong with any kind of rock music!) It began to grow on me though and now I really enjoy it.

Intolerant of Intolerance.

RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
It is a totally cool genre. Early Rock and Roll was jazz influenced (in addition to the blues, gospel and others). the only drummer they could find in the 50's were former jazz drummers, hence the shuffle beats of early Rock and Roll.

Now I know that many drummer don't see the contributions of Ringo, but given the fact that he was first to popularize match grip...

Hey, shouldn't this be posted on the "Drumming" thread? At the very least on "Continually Off Thread."

I grew up on New Orleans jazz. My Mom worked at the Montleone Hotel in The Big Easy and my Grandmother would take me in for dinner now and then. The dining room had a band - can you imagine!? A big one, too. I saw Al Hirt, Pete Fountain and Satchmo his own self! I was very small but I loved that sound Big Grin

... in a world where I feel so small I can't stop thinking big!

Funny 'dat Scythe, me too! I used to love to watch Pete Fountain in the Mardi Gras parades with his band, the "Half-Fast Marching Club"! I also saw Al Hirt, and, of all people, Fats Domino at the Endymion Ball...opening up for (yack!) Tom Jones! I've got a really good drummer friend that still lives there that has been on (World)tour with Bryan Lee for the past couple of years, he's good too. I really miss the club scene of the French Quarter, 'specially the jazz room at the Royal Sonesta. The Monteleone...man, THAT brings back some memories!

RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
My father took me to see Tom Jones when I was about eleven at "The Westbury Music Fair." I like some of his stuff, but it was mostly older women throwing their panties onstage. it was pretty amusing for an eleven year old.

"NO" jazz really swings, man. I loved NO!

I was thinking about Bubba today briefly as I think often of people I love and admire. I was wondering and not sure if he mentioned it...
What was the song or songs that Geddy and Alex threw at him that first audition and meeting? Bubba, if you haven't would you please tell us?

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during that "historic" day. Also I have daydreamed about sitting there (silently) watching the recording of Natural Science. That must have been incredible to watch come together.

I know it's not a band forum...more of a Bubba thing, from that perspective.

UPDATE ON "the song..."
We tried recording the vocals to "Olivia." G and I have spent the summer recording the drum, bass, acoustic and electric guitar parts. It's really coming out great for a 13 year old engineer and producer. So, as I said...we TRIED to record the vocals and hated them. He and I rewrote the melody of the verses and I consulted two of my vocal teachers to get some tips. We will try again within the week.

One fun thing about the song is to look for the "hidden" tributes (some Lifeson-Peart-Lee-isms: you'll see!) that I injected in there. It's so original though.

This by far is one of the best songs I've written and the production is great overall. Sheesh, 13 year olds these days...I think the drum lessons have gone to his head!

It's such a slow process for us. Hopefully soon. He's been going through his early teenage "stuff." I need the believe for more patience! He's a great kid though and I remember how I was around 13-14! Tough time for a kid!

RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
I was driving home and had a vision of Bubba with his head shaved playing drums in a concert setting. King Bubba sitting on his throne. Then I thought, how cool would that look! Like a tough guy.... How about some handlebar mustache effect? Nah, that might detract.

...or you could go with a Peter Criss alter ego.

Offstage to friends and family you're simply "Neil." Onstage you're...

"The Golden Retriever" or "The Lickity Lab"

Sorry, the cat's already taken.

Somehow I don't think Bubba would stand for the make-up [Image: Oo.gif]

I believe that during the audition they jammed out what is now Anthem.
Though it is said that Neil didn't feel it went very well.
What an interesting project you and your son are working on. All the hard work pays off in the end and I look forward to hearing it and the ever enjoyable hunt for those hidden "Easter Eggs".

Oh Bleat!
