You KNOW that Bubba's on here...

RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
Don't get me wrong, I'd buy front row if I could. It just seems that every time I go to order, there's none left. I refuse to pay scalping fees for them also. I'm this way on everything I go to.

RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
Vince - I understand your views, and I shared a bit of them when I was in my twenties (you know - last year?) but I read an article years ago in Modern Drummer magazine concerning Bubba. He had won so many Drummer of the Year awards by the fans and readers, that he was barred from being able to receive the nomination again.

In one article, he expressed his dislike for "all the attention and hoopla" and such, offered in his direction.
This sat very badly with quite a few fans, one of which wrote a scathing response that consisted of the line: Poor "Bubba", etc.
And another young lady that was truly hurt by Bubbas interview comments. She wrote, "It Makes the heart heavy to hear such things from someone so greatly admired by so many", or something to that extent.
It's not that we are not appreciated as fans, I believe that it's just tough to live a "normal" life when your abilities and accomplishments are admired by so many. I cannot imagine. It's akin to explaining to a first grader what a light year is.
Meh - But the fellas... we still like them though... even if we annoy them at times Wink

RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
I remember seeing a portion of that article along with a couple responses. My take is this. There are certain things that make folks "uncomfortable" in their lives. In my mind we are all just "performers and portrayers" in our own lives, whether its aircraft, nursing, land surveying, doctors, lawyers, what have you. Thats like if I go out to eat somewhere, and I see an author like Stephen King having dinner with his family. Would you want to be elevated like that in front of your family, just trying to have a quiet dinner and spending time with those you love?

I love the guys - on that make no mistake. But - along with that comes respect. Winning awards and having bushels of praise heaped upon you are all good things, but some folks just are not that comfortable with it. Its the journey we each take, not the destination. For me - I like being able to go out and mingle, but for some its probably like being locked in a submarine with no hatch.

RE: You KNOW that Bubba's on here...
Funny seeing the Stephen King reference, and then thinking of "Number one fans".

There was a female comedian on TV over here the other day and she was talking about being out with her family (this must make it especially harder as I guess if you are in the business then some of it goes with the Kingdom, but family members must surely be exempt), and a (number one) fan insisted on a posed photo, and would not take no for an answer. Pretty Bad.

My experiences with rock stars - I met Bev Bevan of ELO at Brum International, almost nearly bumped into one another, I said, "Hi - you`re Bev Bevan arent you?" he said "Yeah", I might have said something like "Nice one - have a good flight" and we were both gone - I guess because I didnt need a photo or autograph.

I have also met Andy Timmons and Simon Phillips at a back stage party after a gig - Andy Timmons - although clearly a brilliant guitar player asked me if I thought his playing was good that night, (musicians insecurity??), and when he heard I was there with Jan Cyrka was visably "oh no dont tell me Jan was here". I had been with Jan all after noon and didnt know who he was - other than he had his own recording studio and made a small fortune doing the music to a recent Tampax add - after a range of people came up to him in fawning respect, and were later introduced as "Marshall amps sales director", "Fender Europe sales manager" "Ibanez technical manager" etc I realised he must be important. He said Simon Phillips had asked him to play in the band but he had turned him down - I said turning down Simon Phillips was a big move - and asked who he was, he says Jan Cyrka and his stage name used to be "Flash B*stard". He sent me an album later and he is a major guitar player, highly respected by Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.

All afternoon I had no idea, there was no hint of the guy. He even made me a cup of tea, and we joked about Cockney slang for Piles, "My Chalfonts" - Chalfont St Giles - Piles

As opposed to a mate of mine who saw Ritchie Blackmore, went up to him and siad "Hi are you Ritchie Blackmore?" and Ritchie turned to him and merely said, "F#CK OFF"

Most times, I'd probably not recognize faces in the crowd. Those whom I do, I generally make eye contact smile and give a nod in acknowledgement. I'd rather leave them be and have their space.

I have this exact same thing. Doesn't matter if I'm on the Tickemaster website within seconds of the availability. I always get the choice of very very very back row in the nosebleeds or the tickets for seats in the next time zone.

I honestly don't know how those lucky folks in the front 3 rows get seats.

After seeing the front sections in Wichita, I was truly glad that Cujo chose the corner that she did.
I was as close to that bass player dude as you can get without getting choke slammed by the praetorian guard.
It was very cool - nothing in front of me except guard rail - security - and stage... and when stupidity reared its ugly head (on the front rows), the fellas in black ended it very quickly. No complaints whatsoever with my seating position.
Even got a big grin from that bass player dude.

Stupidity seems to come up no matter where you are, but I hope the cretin who ruined the last 10 minutes of the Minneapolis show is banished for all eternity to wahing out toilets at truck stops. I ended up seeing a conflageration of police, security, and somebody else try to get this varmint under control....so I have no idea how that skit ended. Dont tell me neither. I am sure I will find out.....in Chicago.

Security was soo tight it squeaked in Milwaukee. Now I know why.
I actually got 7th row this time through the VIP package deal. It's the closest I've ever been. Thank goodness I was towards the end of a row so I could peak around the guy in front of me and see the stage.Big Grin
