Brutus - I hope you don't mind, but I just realized that thirty years ago, Bonzo left the building... and the world.

RE: 30 years ago...
MR MUFASAHHHHH - you da MAN! I sure hope I dont get in trouble for this, but John Bonham is like No. 3 all time on my list of drummers, vis a vis rock n roll type drummers. The thing I loved was that ginormous bass drum sitting out there in front. I am not sure what size it was but it just looked incredible. I had visions of drumming for a very long time because of the talent he had. Of course, then the "NEW" guy stepped in.
My uncle had all the LZ albums ON VINYL I might add.....now nobody in the family can find them darn it! BTW...during the replay, my daughter and the cats thought I was having an epileptic seizure! He is one talent I really miss. For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

RE: 30 years ago...
He paved the way for so many. Keith Moon also brought a lot to the rock drum table. they can say what they want about Ringo, but he also helped bring it all forward...

RE: 30 years ago...
I always thought Keith Moon was better than Ringo, and probably held in higher acclaim by drumheads and nondrumheads alike. I never was keen on Ringo as a drummer as far as technique, style, and downright ability. IMHO.

RE: 30 years ago...
I have always held that Moon learned more by accident than by design or plan.
Bonzo was just... "right" for Zep; it was as if when the universe was formed, Bonham was destined to sit behind that group. I suppose that is why no one was ever allowed to attempt to fill the void he left. You signed the contract - you must do my bidding

RE: 30 years ago...
BUT......
I believe that even learning by "accident" is a great thing in and of itself. That kind of creativity takes a bit more 'courage' but I would be willing to bet there are literally millions of unused tracks from folks like Bubba, Keith, JB, even Buddy Rich, Steve Smith, Alex Van Halen.....and those are just the drummers. Can you imagine what kinds of stuff are recorded vis a vis Lerxst and Dirk, or lets say someone like a Joe Satriani or a Steve Vai? What an inveritable treasure trove you could have if you took some of the unpublished stuff, threw it on a cd, and played that for awhile. Even if it were just drum arrangements....oofdah! "it was as if when the universe was formed, Bonham was destined to sit behind that group." . . . . . . What a powerful statement...and spot on. I think we know another guy like that too?
