Birds and Butterflies

RE: Birds and Butterflies
Katie read today that Snowy Owls are migrating much further South than normal this year - as far south as Texas! The long summer and mild winter made the lemming population boom which led to the owl's doing the same. I sure hope we see some here but it's disturbing that climate change is affecting animal populations like this.

It's out on DVD? Yay! I missed it in theaters. When I first read about it in EW last year, my first thought was, "I bet Bubba would love this."

I had read the same thing about the Snowys...can even track them on ebird.com! what I need to do is get on one of those lists where they will text or email instantly when one has been spotted in your area. By the time I checked ebird & went out to look, I think it was too late!

NBC Nightly News did a really good spot on the snowy owls last night...I'll see if I can find the link, but it's definitely worth a watch!

I saw that too! Such beautiful birds! Have any of you northern folks seen any? I admit I got a little excited when I saw that some had been seen in UT. Man, how cool would that be? Just hope I can get to a camera fast enough...

Did it look like this??

So beautiful!

RE: Birds and Butterflies
Yesterday morning there were about four dozen doves in my backyard (no exaggeration-I don't remeber ever seeing that many) until a lone Blue Jay scared them all away.

No, but the coming attractions got my attention. Hopefully I'll see it on cable soon!

RE: Birds and Butterflies
We put out some seeds for the house finches a couple of days ago. They were so happy. Next thing I know, a band of marauding mountain blue jays (at least 40 of them!) swooped in and dumped all the seed on the ground. They ate and ate, then left. I haven't seen them or the finches since.
Now, we have a gilded flicker that has the seed on the ground all to himself. I think I saw a little satellite dish and recliner next to the tree Big Grin
