Sunday was wildlife day. Started with a doe and fawn right out in the backyard. Later in the afternoon, I went for a walk around the nature pond behind the house and saw lots of birds: egret, great blue heron, belted kingfisher, ruby throated hummingbird, songbirds, bugs, fish, and the best was the family of beavers that let me get to within a few feet and watch them feeding on lily pad bulbs. Add the beautiful weather and it was a grand day. I feel recharged!

Had another bear (this one last years cub) run across the road Friday evening. A summer of oddities.

SM, I agree. That's when I go to my handy deck of Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams & David Carson. Cool native Indian take on the animals and seasons and their feelings on what those critters are communicating. What is that bear saying?

Hi folks...

About 3wks ago this lil guy(gal?) showed up. He has a very distinctive song, and boy oh boy what a character! The first day I noticed him he spent all afternoon picking fights with his reflection in the window and generally not playing well with others. I've lived in this area my entire life and I'm 99.9% sure it's not a native species as I've never seen its like before. Possibly an escapee from someone's aviary? I haven't seen him at all over the last 7 days, but I can hear him off in the distance. I guess he finally decided his yellow nemesis is one tough SOB and best left alone. Wink

Anyway, does anyone have an idea of what variety this rascal is?

Nice Photos!!! Best variety I can come up with is "yellow".

The closest one I could come up with is a black naped oriole, but that's an asian bird(google images, aren't I smart!)and would be an oddity, so here's another resource for you.
