RE: Scotch Whisky Observations
Wouldnt you just like to have a glass of it though? Just once? Like a 1942 Claret, or one of those bottles of Petrus - the Bankers over here drink em when their bonuses are paid - up to about £40,000 a bottle...........jeez, and they are only in their twenties some of them.

RE: Scotch Whisky Observations
Certainly is a pretty bottle though. I wonder if they would ship it in an old Coke bottle for $30...

RE: Scotch Whisky Observations
Me thinks they would say no. I do like the idea of drinking something older than me - (other than water as my daughter pointed out the other day - we have always drunk the same water on this planet). A mate and his Dad buy each other a bottle of wine from their birth year - its getting more and more expensive for both of them - but good fun.

HEck - I'd be happy if they just poured some in a canteen for me! I'll transfer it to my own decanter when I get home.

Quote:I'd be interested in the article though! It was a small entry in The Mail on Sunday "Live" colour supplement - Clint Eastwwod on the cover. Not sure if you get this in the States? RE: Scotch Whisky Observations
So the other day we were out shopping and I went to pay up and get my Hubby his 18 year Macallan , but he asked instead to have me get a bottle of the Cask Reserve. It comes in a red box and is darker in color than the 12 or 15 year and the texture is smooth and has more viscosity, also on the box it stated that it wasn't filtered and was bottled straight from the sherry casks. He said it was excellent and a enjoyable after dinner treat.
If you can't play by OUR rules take your toys and go home!!

RE: Scotch Whisky Observations
Thats a great taster there. The filtering process can clean out some of the impurities, but also tones down some of the flavors in the malt. If it comes right from the cask the flavors are a bit stronger and its not so peppery to the palatte. It generally depends on what you like. Some folks prefer the peatier malts of the Islays, while I prefer the cleaner less peaty flavor of the Highlands. I havent seen too many Speysides.
Most single malts are generally - THE BEST after dinner treat! For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

RE: Scotch Whisky Observations
For my birthday to myself - I picked up a bottle of Dalwhinnie 15 yr Islay Scotch. My tasting was a sort of birthday celebration, but I picked this up because it is a lesser known scotch but probably just as vibrant as a Talisker or Oban without all the hype.
This is a little more spendy - at least at the spirits place I picked it up at, but once I got a taste, it did not disappoint! This is a very clean taster, almost no hint of peaty flavor, but instead much more akin to the casks that it developed in. Very nutty flavor, and oak smokiness that are typical of a quality Highlands malt. A good warming feeling as well, and a bit peppery at first, but overall very very smooth flavors combined in a very clean and tasty malt. The biggest thing that struck me was the sense of flavors that were't overpowered by the peatyness of an Islay. This is a definite keeper in the cabinet and one I will keep stocked! I also picked up a bottle of Jamesons 12 year reserve Irish Whiskey I will review later - haven't cracked the seal on it yet! For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

RE: Scotch Whisky Observations
One of my cohorts at Lear just returned from Basil, Switzerland where, it seems that everyone speaks three languages and loves Americans. (NOT!)
After a particularly difficult day at our facility there, he stepped into a pub - which turned out to be British... and ordered a single malt. ONE single malt. NWo - you wanna guess at what he paid for it? You signed the contract - you must do my bidding

Blimey I hesitate to guess - the Swiss economy has always been strong (turning a blind eye to most investments from abroad and keeping discrete about them too), so things are probably more expensive there than the rest of Europe - and having their own currency have not suffered the Euro collapse. I would think a single malt of no particular heritage in an expensive place in the UK might be as much as £15 , so maybe £20? say $30 USD?? I dont know - I am guessing eye watering.
