RE: The joys of Oatmeal.....
2Beers, I wonder if our mothers read the same books back then. My mom was also really into Brewers yeast as well. The only way that I found it tolerable was when a friend's mother mixed it with melted butter and drizzled it over steamed veggies.
Did your mom experiment with Tofu or Soybeans as well? My mom would try to crumble or dice the tofu and scramble it in our eggs, or mix crumbled tofu with mayonnaise and put it in a sandwich as if it were tuna. I've also had soybean pancakes & waffles (a little crunchy, use lots of syrup), and soybean burgers, with and without spouts added (it goes down better with gravy). Tofu...my mom put in hamburger to stretch it. She didn't use the Brewer's yeast. We did have wheat germ on everything possible, and in cookies, and other baked goods.

RE: The joys of Oatmeal.....
I remember one time when my mother made Bok Choy soup and it had cubes of tofu floating in it. It wasn't appealing.
There is a local chain or restaurants here in town now that marinate and grill tofu in Teryaki and put it on a skewer or in a tortilla full of salsa and lettuce, tomatoes, beans & cheese. Those are delicious!! A party without cake is really just a meeting |

RE: The joys of Oatmeal.....
But, steering the conversation back to the topic, I am looking for a really good recipe for oatmeal muffins. My son absolutely does not like oatmeal served in it's normal form. I think that it just might be too "messy" for him. He's not into wet food. So I've been looking for alternate forms of serving him oatmeal. So if anyone has a recipe for oatmeal muffins that they'd like to share, I'd be most appreciative

Big bowl o' McCann's, with butter and maple syrup. Now that's a breakfast for a winter's morning!

RE: The joys of Oatmeal.....
You ever have one of those...I dunno...BEYOND AH-HA moments, where you truly feel so ridiculous that something NEVER OCCURED to you before?
I had one yesterday morning, I was getting ready to make oatmeal...and the jug of apple cider was sitting on the counter...and I thought to myself, "Why not?" So instead of using water to make my oatmeal I used apple cider and an handfull of dried cranberries, oh my goodness was that good! "This is a standard queen outfit, then?" |
