I recognize the extra gas can on the back! I just did 460 miles last weekend, and hoping for more next month. For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

I was either roaming around Iowa City, or if on a rainy Friday I was heading towards the Quad Cities to see a down on his luck friend to bring cheer, hot dogs, and leave a 12 yr. old Macallan. ![]() (07-10-2011 07:54 AM)2Beers Wrote: Very nice Smoker. I guess that you like us won't be in the Iron Butt 1000 mile ridiing club? Ohh, maybe someday. First I have to at least get a seat pad, if not get the seat redone by a certain seat co. I know of(no shameless plug) . Gonna order the seat pad this Fri. since I`m going on a weeklong backroad ride of North/ Northeast Minnesota the frst Fri. in August. The Missus will be playing tagalong behind me in her SUV. I`m hoping for 1,000 miles that week. Should get it as first ride day will be around 400 miles. Will post all the pictures I can when I get back.

RE: Photography
Yeah he did! And yeah it was just west of Iowa City....can't remember exactly what day it was but I had to go down to the Harley Stealership in Iowa City for a part I ordered a few weeks back. Problem was you were headed east - I was headed west back towards the Amanas. I always love going thru the Amanas on the way home - the beef sticks they have at the Meat Shop are perfect!
What I dont understand is I give those BMW folks the biker salute all the time, and for some reason my trip to Minnesota - almost every single BMW ignored me. Must be my Harley! For You Steve & Monica - Your Love will forever shine on in our hearts!!!

I think maybe they`re just stuck up. The Friday I headed to see my friend I was snubbed by at least 6 of them. I wave to anyone that waves to me if I can. I don`t care what someone rides...as long as they ride. American, German, Japanese...whatever it is, we all just need to be friends. Or is that a little too sappy?

Not too sappy I feel the same way, but all that snubbiness just really isnt called for. I ride - therefore I ride. Thats always gotta be cool. I couldn't believe it though. Although I am not "exactly" an ATGATT rider, I do believe in wearing at least most of the proper attire for riding, but sometimes ditch that leather jacket for riding the back roads. Maybe thats my problem!

Maybe thats my problem! Naw...like I think, they were probably just being snobs. The local group I joined makes fun of Harley riders all the time, and here's the kicker, they have a harley rider in the group. To top that off they ride up to the Victory plant in Spirit Lake and spend a few days camping across the rd. from it. They even made fun of my bike . Most of them ar K and RT riders who look down on everyone else. There are a couple of good guys but for the most part they are holier than thou. I told the missus that i'm officially thru with them for that reason, and the fact that they drink and ride. Thats the biggest NO-NO for me. Anywho, here's an older pic of the wife and I at a dinner with General(retired) Frederick "Boots" Blesse and his wife. This was taken a couple of years ago at a dinner thats held during wings of the North airshow in Eden Prairie,MN. Big night for me as he was a pilot I always wanted to meet. (hint, look at my goofy smile). He and his wife are great, down to earth people that were terrific fun to be around. Currently pursuing individuality. |

RE: Photography
Ooooooo drinking and riding. Thats like No. 1 on my no no list, and right next to it is riding without a helmet! Two things I really despise. A couple years ago I went on one of those infamous "poker" runs with a group of guys for the brother of one of them who had severe Stage 3 esophogeal cancer. I could not believe the drinks those guys were slamming down. Took me completely by surprise how perfectly honest guys could be so utterly ignorant of my safety, let alone everyone elses. Took off after I saw that and haven't done any of those since. I usually end up riding alone simply because I have a hard time trusting my safety to a bunch of boozing "knowitalls".
One of my hopes is that I can ride up the the Richard I. Bong Museum in Duluth. Capt. Bong was a WWII pilot who has the most confirmed kills of any American pilot at 40. I wrote a book report on him once, and just enjoyed his life story. Just curious what aircraft General Blesse flew - not very familiar with him. RE: Photography
Gonna have to check out the Bong museum in Duluth next month when I go up there on vaca. General Blesse is a double ace for the Korean Conflict. He got his kills in an F-86 sabre. He also flew in Vietnam in an F-4, but had no shoot downs there.
I mainly ride alone as the odd days off from work I have don't let me ride with too many people, that and I'm somewhat of an introvert.

You and Boomer might get a kick out of this place then: Bong Recreation Area The name alone makes it quite popular for camping in this area.
